| Assets: | Has a simple but extremely efficient swing. Displays a rare combo of distance and accuracy off the tee, possesses a very sharp iron game and can really roll the ball smoothly on the greens. A complete player with a great mind. |
| Flaws: | Needs to develop killer instincts and learn how to win down the stretch. Could manage the golf course--and the leaderboard--better when in the hunt. Not a great finisher. |
| Career Potential: | Excellent player of major championship caliber. |

News
Hunter Mahan fired a 1-under-par 36-36=71 in the third round of THE PLAYERS and enters the finale at 8-under 208.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan's round was a wild one, featuring two double bogeys, an eagle, four birdies and a bogey. He was cruising when he stepped on the 15th tee, but pulled his tee shot into a tree and it never came down. That led to his second double bogey of the round. He bounced back with a chip-in eagle on the very next hole, then bogeyed the par-3 17th before saving par after a poor drive on 18. He'll try and eliminated the ugly numbers and continue to find the birdies and eagles in the final round. |

Rotoworld.com
Impact
Finally! It's only one round, but it could be a turning point for a guy that hasn't finished inside the top 70 in his last four starts. He hit 14 greens in regulation and converted five birdies, three of which on par 5s. The highlights consisted of a 14-yard hole-out from in front of the green at the par-4 10th, where he opened his round, and a nine-yard chip-in from the rough at the par-5 ninth. He signed his card sitting four strokes adrift of the clubhouse lead. |

Mahan back to Redstone; defends Shell Houston | 03/25/2013 9:32 PM
News
Hunter Mahan is back to defend his 2012 title at the Shell Houston Open.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
Mahan has enjoyed plenty of top 25s to start 2013, seven in eight starts to be exact, but has found his way inside the top 10 just twice. What's trending well is his success in the Match Play. After winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2012 before picking up a win at Redstone GC, he doubled back at finished runner-up at that event in 2013. To boot, he's finished inside the top 11 five of his seven trips to this venue. The only note of caution is his two missed cuts the times he didn't contend. Still, all signs point to a top 10 this time around. |

Mahan takes on Kuchar with WGC title at stake | 02/24/2013 1:56 PM
News
Hunter Mahan slayed Ian Poulter 4 and 3 in the semifinals of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, and advances to face Matt Kuchar in the championship.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan's ball-striking was the key to the match, as he was routinely in the fairway and on or around Dove Mountain's greens. The match had a chance to turn in Poulter's favor at the par-5 11th. Down 2, Poulter had a putt for par to cut the deficit in half but missed to halve with bogey. On the next hole, Mahan airmailed the green and Poulter hit the par 3 in regulation. Mahan stole the show when he chipped in to go 3 up. A messy bogey on the par-4 14th put Poulter 4 down with four to play. The 15th was halved with birdies, meaning Mahan will have a chance to defend his 2012 title this afternoon. Of note, Mahan has not trailed in a match since his opening-round match of 2012 against Zach Johnson. |

Mahan tops W. Simpson; date w/ Poulter awaits | 02/23/2013 8:38 PM
News
Hunter Mahan played a bogey-free 18 holes of golf in the quarterfinals of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship to narrowly defeat Webb Simpson 1 up.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
In a well-played match by both players, the only bogey of the match came at the par-3 16th when Simpson failed to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker. That proved to be the difference. Mahan circled 12 birdies without a bogey in 32 holes of play in a combined two matches on Saturday at Dove Mountain, winning the Player Bracket. If he continues that torrid pace in Sunday's semifinal match, Ian Poulter could have a fight on his hands. NBC broadcasters pointed out on the live telecast that Mahan has not missed a putt inside 10 feet all week, so there will be no freebies for the Brit. |

Mahan looks like a defender in 5&4 romp | 02/23/2013 3:01 PM
News
Hunter Mahan had little problem in dispensing of Martin Kaymer 5 and 4 in a third-round match in the Player Bracket of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan won all six of his holes with birdies, with his only lost hole coming when his birdie at the par-5 second was bested by a Kaymer eagle. They started on the back nine, so at the point when Kaymer won his only hole the match was already basically decided. Mahan appears to be in top form, and stands an excellent chance at defending his 2012 title. He awaits the winner of the Webb Simpson and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano. |

Mahan tested but skates through to 3rd round | 02/22/2013 5:24 PM
News
Hunter Mahan defeated Richard Sterne 4 and 3 in the Player Bracket in their second-round match of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Both golfers won two holes each with birdies on the front nine, thus making the turn all square. Sterne then misfired for bogey losses at 10 and 11. Mahan rode that momentum to a birdie win at 12 and a conceded eagle at 13. Suddenly 4 up with five to play, the duo halved 14 and 15 with pars and Sterne was toast. Mahan hasn't played beyond the 15th hole this week, but the defending champion is quite familiar with Dove Mountain. He'll play the winner of Rafael Cabrera-Bello v. Martin Kaymer in Saturday's third round. |

News
Hunter Mahan opened his title defense of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship with a 5-and-4 win over Matteo Manassero in the opening round.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan was conceded the first hole and didn't relinquish the lead despite playing out the string in 1-over. He won all of his remaining five holes on Manassero bogeys, easily enough to offset the Italian's lone win with a par at 11. This is the first time in three appearances in this event that Manassero has been bounced in the first round. Mahan advances to face the winner between Jason Dufner and Richard Sterne. |

News
Hunter Mahan will defend his 2012 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship this week.
WorldGolfChampionships.com
Impact
He opens up in the Player Bracket against Matteo Manassero, trying to reverse a disturbing trend. The last two winners of this event have fallen victim to a first-round upset. Fortunately for Mahan, his form seems to be in top shape. Three bogeys on the last four holes at Riviera CC last week were all that prevented him from possibly winning the Northern Trust Open. |

Mahan fades late @ Northern Trust Open finale | 02/17/2013 7:28 PM
News
Hunter Mahan looked to be a man ready to post a number to beat in the final round of the Northern Trust Open but settled for a 2-under-par 31-38=69.
WorldGolfChampionships.com
Impact
Mahan circled seven birdies to just two bogeys in his first 14 holes, but dropped three strokes over his final four holes to fall out of contention. A round with that many birdies will make him a prime candidate to defend his title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship beginning Wednesday. He ends his week at Riviera CC at 8-under 276. |

Strong back nine boosts Mahan at Riviera CC | 02/16/2013 6:41 PM
News
Hunter Mahan spun a 3-under-par 35-33=68 in the third round of the Northern Trust Open, entering the finale at 6-under 207.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan traded two birdies and two bogeys on his outward nine, but tidied things up a bit on the back. He took advantage of the birdie holes at Riviera CC, circling birdies on the short par-4 10th, the par-5 11th and the par-5 17th. With the fairways running dry and fast, it made the normally mammoth par 5s slightly more manageable. |

Mahan runs in place at MPCC; loses the lead | 02/08/2013 6:50 PM
News
In his second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, overnight co-leader Hunter Mahan settled for a 1-under-par 35-34=69 at Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Of the trio of courses in play this week, MPCC was the most vulnerable in the opening round at -0.404 strokes to par. Mahan's score will help keep that average down, but he had to feel like he let an opportunity slip through his fingers a bit. He started on the back side and played his first 15 holes in bogey-free 1-under before incurring a double bogey at the par-3 seventh hole. He's recover with birdies at 8 and 9 to post 7-under 135 and sit one stroke off the 36-hole clubhouse lead. He'll conclude his rotation on Saturday at Spyglass Hill. |

Hunter Mahan makes it a twosome atop the AT&T | 02/07/2013 7:29 PM
News
Hunter Mahan posted a 6-under-par 31-35=66 on the host course in his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, finishing with a share of the clubhouse lead.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Mahan arrives in form and with a solid track record at this event, so today's effort is not surprising. He hit 16 greens and converted seven birdies, the longest of which disappearing from 14'8" at the seventh hole. He'd incur a bogey at the par-4 17th, failing to get up and down from the rough right and short of the putting surface. Mahan's aggregate is two strokes higher than Russell Knox, who played Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course today -- site of Mahan's second round on Friday -- but they are tied in relation to par. |

Farmers suspended by darkness; Monday finish | 01/27/2013 9:16 PM
News
The horn blew to suspend play due to darkness at the Farmers Insurance Open at 4:58 p.m. PT, with play set to resume Monday morning.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Among those within shouting distance of the top 10, Hunter Mahan's completion of 14 holes and change puts him closest to polishing off his week at Torrey Pines. Ending the day at 7-under-par for the tournament and 1-under for his round, he will try and put the finishing touches on a birdie at the par-5 sixth when play resumes. Everyone is trying to run down 54-hole leader Tiger Woods, who stands alone by six strokes at 17-under to his nearest chasers. All signs point to a seventh Farmers Insurance Open title for Woods in Monday's finale. |
