Matt Every carded a 4-under-par 34-34=68 in his opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, finishing four strokes off the early clubhouse lead.
With soft greens and lift, clean and place in play, TPC Louisiana is vulnerable. Every capitalized, hitting 12 greens and limited the damage to one bogey against five birdies. His longest conversions occurred consecutively at holes 10 and 11 where he rolled in birdies of 22'2" and 18'4", respectively. He went out in the first threesome off the first tee with leader Ricky Barnes, so you can't rule out that Every drafted off his playing partner a bit. Both entered the week in a slump.

Matt Every fired a 6-under-par 34-32=66 in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, improving his three-day total to 3-under 213.
The University of Florida product circled five birdies and an eagle to just one bogey in his third lap around Bay Hill. The eagle fell at the par-5 16th from 20'7" and he added a birdie from 14'6" on the par-4 18th, playing as the most difficult hole this week, to end his day. With just one top 25 on his resume this season, today's round could go a long way in improving his position in the FedExCup standings should he back it up tomorrow.

Matt Every will tee it up for the fourth time in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week.
He's made two out of his three cuts at Bay Hill, with a T24 last year his best finish. It's been a bit of a struggle for Every this year, making just four of nine cuts with his T9 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open serving as his only top 25. Missing the cut in his last three events, with two coming on courses in Florida, is a bit of a surprise seeing that he played his collegiate golf at the University of Florida and is native to the Sunshine State.

Every landed 13 greens in regulation and holed seven birdies, including five on his second nine (Pebble's front side). His conversions included rolls from 22'4" at the first hole and 11'8" at 8. At the time he signed his card, he held sole possession of the clubhouse lead.

Every looked to be on 59 watch early in the round, finding seven birdies to just one bogey in his first 10 holes. His pace would slow to a creeping halt from that point forward, failing to secure anything other than pars and a bogey on his final eight holes. With two missed cuts and a T60 in his first three starts, this was a welcomed addition to his 2013 resume and gives him momentum headed into the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Matt Every followed his opening 65 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open with a 4-under-par 33-34=67 to reach the midpoint in 10-under 132.
Every hit 14 greens in regulation today and dropped a birdie attempt from 14'6" at the second hole, but he completed 11 holes in even par due to a double bogey-6 at the 11th hole. After three more pars, it was setting up to be a disappointing day, but he closed eagle-birdie-par-birdie on the most exciting stretch of TPC Scottsdale. His eagle conversion at the par-5 15th measured just 10'10" while his birdie at the par-3 16th disappeared from 24'5". He's two strokes off the 36-hole clubhouse lead but four-and-a-half times that back of Phil Mickelson, who has one hole to play.

Every has started the season slow, with only one payday in three starts, and that was a T60 at the Farmers. Today's loop of TPC Scottsdale was easily his best of the year. He hit 16 greens and buried eight birdies, four of which from beyond 11 feet. His longest dropped him from 16 feet at the 12th hole.

Every missed two of his three cuts to kick off 2013, but tied for eighth in his only prior trip to TPC Scottsdale in 2010. That week included an opening 64, but a final-round 1-over-par 72 kept him from turning a great week into a career-changing one. He tends to be a streaky player, so one can't rule out a big week for a guy with two runner-ups in 25 starts last season.
