| Assets: | Doesn't stand out in any particular aspect of the game but does well enough to post decent scores. A decent driver, a fairly accurate iron player and has good touch on the greens. |
| Flaws: | Just doesn't possess an elite game. Can't handle tough venues against top competition. Not the best course manager out there. Plays a very conservative game. Can be very inconsistent. |
| Career Potential: | Struggling journeyman with limited upside. |

His previous best came in the form of a T40 last year, also representing his only made cut. In 14 events this season he's cashed just five checks, with a his T32 in New Orleans last week his second-best finish. Gainey ended 2012 as one of the hottest players on the PGA TOUR but has failed to back that up in 2013. |

Gainey beginning to thaw ahead of the SHO | 03/26/2013 10:03 PM
News
Tommy Gainey snapped a massive cold streak ahead of his trip to the Shell Houston Open.

Impact
Gainey had missed his last seven cuts before finally escaping Bay Hill with a T57. Perhaps Redstone will have a stabilizing affect on him this week. He's made each of his two cuts at this event, with a T30 in 2011 the best. Despite the shaky start, it's not time to bail on him just yet. The first three months of the season have not traditionally been the sweet spot of his schedule anyway. |

Busy start to 2013 ahead of NTO for Gainey | 02/13/2013 10:37 PM
News
Tommy Gainey has kept a full schedule ahead of the Northern Trust Open.

Impact
Gainey has always stayed busy from week to week, and despite a win late in 2012 it appears that will not change in 2013. Having played every event on the schedule to date, he has gone from a T6 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and a T36 at the Sony Open to missing his last four cuts. Still, we've come to expect frequent dry spells and flashes of brilliance from him, so it's safe to say nothing has been a real surprise. He's made both of his cuts at Riviera CC, but has nothing better than a T35 to show. |

Fresh off a solid T6 at Kapalua, Gainey headed west to Oahu with the hopes to better on a career-best T55 (2009) at Waialae in four starts. After a bogey-5 at the second hole, he played blemish-free golf, circling four birdies on the way in. The standout conversion was an 11-yard roll from the fringe at the 17th hole. He also poured in a par save from 11'6" at 16. |

Solid first trip to Kapalua for Gainey w/ T6 | 01/08/2013 7:49 PM
News
Tommy Gainey turned in a steady effort in his first trip to Hyundai Tournament of Champions when he tied for sixth with Ricke Fowler at 8-under-par 211 due in part to his final-round 3-under-par 35-35=70.

Impact
It was an impressive outing, following a pattern of success in tournaments that border on the ocean. You may remember that Gainey picked up his first win at the end of 2012 on Sea Island before adding silly-season win at Pebble Beach to wrap up the year. He was under par in each of his three round, and only swallowed three bogeys for the entire week at a clip of one per round. His 90.74 percent GIR led the tournament. He now heads to the Sony Open to try and tackle the tight fairways of Waialae Country Club. |

Gainey entesr HTOC finale as low first-timer | 01/07/2013 11:20 PM
News
Tommy Gainey will enter the final round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions as the low first-timer at 5-under-par 141 after spinning a 4-under 35-33=69 in the second round.

Impact
Gainey would have been even lower, but had to stomach a triple-bogey six on the par-3 eighth hole near the end of his opener. Seemingly still on tilt, he came out and bogeyed the par-3 second to start his afternoon round. That would be it for the blemishes, as he would circle five birdies and 11 pars on his way to the house. He enters Tuesday's finale one hot round away from his second TOUR win. |

Ocean views a fit for Gainey ahead of Kapalua | 01/02/2013 9:59 PM
News
Tommy Gainey broke through with his first PGA TOUR win at The McGladrey Classic and with it secured a tee time in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Impact
Perhaps no one was sadder to see 2012 come to an end than Gainey, who also picked up a win at the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational after the close of the PGA TOUR season. Worth noting, each of those wins came on the ocean where wind can be a factor. That is not all that different from what he could face on the Plantation Course. |
