"The PGA Tour has now finally admitted that the use of deer antler spray is not prohibited," the suit claims. "Rather than performing its duties to golfers first, and then determining whether there had been any violation of the Anti-Doping Program, the PGA Tour rushed to judgment and accused one of the world's hardest working and most dedicated golfers of violating the rules of the game." In a statement, Singh added, "I am proud of my achievements, my work ethic, and the way I live my life. The PGA Tour not only treated me unfairly, but displayed a lack of professionalism that should concern every professional golfer and fan of the game." The lawsuit won't prevent Singh from competing on the PGA or Champions Tours. He's scheduled to go off the first tee at 2:00 p.m. ET for his opening round of THE PLAYERS on Thursday.

Look for him to give it a go at next week's PLAYERS, an event where his best finish is a runner-up to Tiger Woods' "Better Than Most" victory of 2001. It will be a home game for the Fijian.

The explanation for the verdict hinged upon a recent decision made by the World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA] that the deer antler spray (IGF-1) Singh admitted to taking is no longer prohibited. What's interesting is that the timing of WADA's updated position trailed Singh's confession in the SI.com report. In other words, the decision grandfathers Singh into the clear. WADA reiterated that IGF-1 can contribute to a positive drug test, and the PGA TOUR emphasized that it will continue to engage with its members about what they ingest, but the fire is out as it relates to the 50-year-old Fijian who continues his playing career at this week's Wells Fargo Championship.

In a brief comment regarding the status of Vijay Singh, PGA TOUR commissioner Tim Finchem said today that a decision is expected "relatively soon."

The mere admittance of ingesting a banned substance is grounds for penalty, but there are several moving parts in play that has everyone guessing on his fate, including the fact that Singh has competed twice since the SI.com report was published. He met with commissioner Tim Finchem on Wednesday, but no details of that get-together have surfaced. It's also worth the reminder that Singh had withdrawn early from last week's stop in Arizona due to a back injury.

The back injury is clearly a formality, although buddy Tom Pernice, Jr. vouched for Singh in a report at GolfChannel.com. After Singh's statement on Wednesday, one of two things was going to happen -- either the PGA TOUR was going to issue a statement absolving Singh in some way so that he could play TPC Scottsdale without a cloud hanging over him, or Singh would withdraw. It's merely the next step on what could be a long process to clear the Fijian's name amid his use of deer antler spray which contains IGF-1, a chemical banned throughout sports, including the PGA TOUR.

As we relayed on Tuesday, deer antler spray contains IGF-1, which is a banned substance on the PGA TOUR and all major sports leagues. Here is Singh's statement in full: "While I have used deer antler spray, at no time was I aware that it may contain a substance that is banned under the PGA TOUR Anti-Doping Policy. In fact, when I first received the product, I reviewed the list of ingredients and did not see any prohibited substances. I am absolutely shocked that deer antler spray may contain a banned substance and am angry that I have put myself in this position. I have been in contact with the PGA TOUR and am cooperating fully with their review of this matter. I will not be commenting further at this time." For the time being, he remains in the field at this week's Waste Management Phoenix Open where he's scheduled to tee off on Thursday at 12:25 p.m. local time. Expect the TOUR to issue a statement of its own soon.
