V. Singh over par in his opener @ THE PLAYERS | 05/09/2013 7:26 PM
News
Vijay Singh signed for a 2-over-par 39-35=74 following his opening round of THE PLAYERS.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
While Singh made news for his lawsuit against the PGA TOUR this week, he's still a golfer coming off a back injury that reportedly prevented him from competing at Quail Hollow last week. He split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 14 greens in regulation but fanned on four putts inside eight feet and circled only three birdies. The set included a crowd-pleaser at the par-3 17th from 15'4". |

Vijay Singh sues the PGA TOUR on Wednesday | 05/08/2013 10:01 AM
News
USATODAY.com is reporting that Vijay Singh has filed suit against the PGA TOUR, claiming that the organization violated "its duty of care and good faith" concerning the golfer's usage of a once-banned substance.
USATODAY.com
Impact
While the TOUR dropped its case against Singh last week, you saw this latest action coming. "The PGA Tour has now finally admitted that the use of deer antler spray is not prohibited," the suit claims. "Rather than performing its duties to golfers first, and then determining whether there had been any violation of the Anti-Doping Program, the PGA Tour rushed to judgment and accused one of the world's hardest working and most dedicated golfers of violating the rules of the game." In a statement, Singh added, "I am proud of my achievements, my work ethic, and the way I live my life. The PGA Tour not only treated me unfairly, but displayed a lack of professionalism that should concern every professional golfer and fan of the game." The lawsuit won't prevent Singh from competing on the PGA or Champions Tours. He's scheduled to go off the first tee at 2:00 p.m. ET for his opening round of THE PLAYERS on Thursday. |

V. Singh WDs from Wells Fargo Championship | 05/01/2013 10:09 AM
News
Vijay Singh has been removed from the published field of this week's Wells Fargo Championship, citing a back injury, per PGA TOUR Media on Twitter.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
Singh has popped in and out of fields all season. His last early WD occurred in Houston due to a knee injury. As we relayed to you on Tuesday, he was able to continue competing during the appeal process to PGA TOUR's sanction after his confirmation that he used IGF-1. However, remove that entire saga and you still a 50-year-old touring professional who has beaten his body pretty good over the years. Look for him to give it a go at next week's PLAYERS, an event where his best finish is a runner-up to Tiger Woods' "Better Than Most" victory of 2001. It will be a home game for the Fijian. |

Vijay Singh cleared in kerfuffle over IGF-1 | 04/30/2013 4:17 PM
News
In a statement released by the PGA TOUR, Vijay Singh has been found not guilty of violating the circuit substance abuse policy.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
The explanation for the verdict hinged upon a recent decision made by the World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA] that the deer antler spray (IGF-1) Singh admitted to taking is no longer prohibited. What's interesting is that the timing of WADA's updated position trailed Singh's confession in the SI.com report. In other words, the decision grandfathers Singh into the clear. WADA reiterated that IGF-1 can contribute to a positive drug test, and the PGA TOUR emphasized that it will continue to engage with its members about what they ingest, but the fire is out as it relates to the 50-year-old Fijian who continues his playing career at this week's Wells Fargo Championship. |

V. Singh circles 3 birdies; doesn't break par | 04/11/2013 6:13 PM
News
Vijay Singh opened the 77th Masters with an even-par 35-37=72.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Although no resolution with the PGA TOUR has been released regarding Singh's admitted use of a banned substance -- a newsworthy event that continues to follow the 50-year-old around -- he also made headlines for an early withdrawal from the Shell Houston Open two weeks ago due to a knee injury. Today marked his first live action since Bay Hill. He hit only 10 greens in regulation and rolled in three birdies, but erased them with a double bogey at the par-4 10th and a bogey-5 at 14. He signed his card sitting six strokes adrift of the clubhouse lead. |

V. Singh won't play until Masters ... maybe | 03/29/2013 7:00 PM
News
Vijay Singh is not listed in the published field of next week's Valero Texas Open.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
He was scratched from his start in Houston due to a knee injury, so we'll have to wait and see if he's able to give it a go at Augusta National in two weeks. Still nothing yet from the PGA TOUR as it relates to Singh's admitted use of a banned substance. |

Knee injury cited for V. Singh's withdrawal | 03/26/2013 9:38 PM
News
The PGA TOUR announced that Vijay Singh withdrew from this week's Shell Houston Open due to a knee injury.
GolfChannel.com
Impact
GolfChannel.com's Jason Sobel relayed the news. What's interesting but not surprising about this is that neither a golfer nor the TOUR is obligated to publicize an explanation for a withdrawal before a tournament or in between rounds. Given the cloud that continue to hover over Singh's situation as it relates to using a banned substance, it makes sense to quell the masses with news. Of course, it doesn't change public opinion and you can guess how much legal wrangling is occurring, but we'll toss the 50-year-old onto our Injury Report nonetheless. If he doesn't attempt to play next week's Valero Texas Open, look for him inside the ropes again at the Masters in two weeks. |

Vijay Singh WDs from the Shell Houston Open | 03/25/2013 6:10 PM
News
Vijay Singh has been removed from the published field of this week's Shell Houston Open.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
Singh faded to a T57 at Bay Hill with rounds of 75 and 78 after the cut. With today's news of his WD, expect murmurs to intensify over whether he's (finally) been suspended for admitting to using a banned substance. If he doesn't play in next week's Valero Texas Open, he'd still be allowed to compete in the Masters since the TOUR doesn't operate that event. |

V. Singh goes 7-for-7 in scrambling on Friday | 03/22/2013 2:13 PM
News
Vijay Singh carded a bogey-free, 4-under-par 34-34=68 in his second round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Impact
Singh hit only 11 greens in regulation, but his greenside game was on fire. He went 17-for-18 in conversions from inside 19 feet. He rolled in four birdies, the longest of which just 12'6" at the par-5 fourth hole, his first of three on the three-shotters today. At 5-under 139 at the midpoint, he's four strokes in arrears of the 36-hole clubhouse lead. |

V. Singh sub-70 in first round as 50-year-old | 03/14/2013 1:26 PM
News
Vijay Singh posted a 2-under-par 34-35=69 in his opening round of the Tampa Bay Championship, finishing one stroke off the early clubhouse lead.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Singh hasn't played competitively since turning 50 years of age on Feb. 22. No additional news regarding his use of a banned substance has surfaced either, but the cloud that hangs overhead didn't influence his game negatively today. He hit 14 greens at Copperhead and erased two bogeys with four birdies, including respective conversions of 15'2" and 23'10" at the third and ninth holes. |

TOUR to decide on V. Singh 'relatively soon' | 02/24/2013 11:00 PM
News
In a brief comment regarding the status of Vijay Singh, PGA TOUR commissioner Tim Finchem said today that a decision is expected "relatively soon."
GolfChannel.com
Impact
Finchem added, "We're in our process. There's no time urgency here, because if action is taken it'll be reported." The mere admittance of ingesting a banned substance is grounds for penalty, but there are several moving parts in play that has everyone guessing on his fate, including the fact that Singh has competed twice since the SI.com report was published. He didn't qualify for the WGC-Match Play; he didn't commit to this week's Honda Classic; and he won't qualify for next week's WGC-Cadillac Championship. |

Vijay Singh remains in play; opens with a 72 | 02/07/2013 5:29 PM
News
Vijay Singh signed for an even-par 35-37=72 following his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
Singh hit 12 greens and wiped off four birdies with four bogeys, his last two of which whiffed par saves from inside seven feet. The score itself is borderline irrelevant. Instead, that he even teed it up under the cloud of suspicion that trailed the report and his admission of ingesting the banned substance IGF-1 is the headline. He met with commissioner Tim Finchem on Wednesday, but no details of that get-together have surfaced. It's also worth the reminder that Singh had withdrawn early from last week's stop in Arizona due to a back injury. |

Vijay Singh withdraws from WM Phoenix Open | 01/31/2013 12:31 PM
News
Vijay Singh has withdrawn from this week's Waste Management Phoenix Open, citing a back injury.
PGATOUR.com
Impact
The back injury is clearly a formality, although buddy Tom Pernice, Jr. vouched for Singh in a report at GolfChannel.com. After Singh's statement on Wednesday, one of two things was going to happen -- either the PGA TOUR was going to issue a statement absolving Singh in some way so that he could play TPC Scottsdale without a cloud hanging over him, or Singh would withdraw. It's merely the next step on what could be a long process to clear the Fijian's name amid his use of deer antler spray which contains IGF-1, a chemical banned throughout sports, including the PGA TOUR. |

V. Singh releases statement in wake of report | 01/30/2013 2:50 PM
News
Vijay Singh released a 101-word statement today in response to his admittance in a SI.com report that he used deer antler spray.
Rotoworld.com
Impact
As we relayed on Tuesday, deer antler spray contains IGF-1, which is a banned substance on the PGA TOUR and all major sports leagues. Here is Singh's statement in full: "While I have used deer antler spray, at no time was I aware that it may contain a substance that is banned under the PGA TOUR Anti-Doping Policy. In fact, when I first received the product, I reviewed the list of ingredients and did not see any prohibited substances. I am absolutely shocked that deer antler spray may contain a banned substance and am angry that I have put myself in this position. I have been in contact with the PGA TOUR and am cooperating fully with their review of this matter. I will not be commenting further at this time." For the time being, he remains in the field at this week's Waste Management Phoenix Open where he's scheduled to tee off on Thursday at 12:25 p.m. local time. Expect the TOUR to issue a statement of its own soon. |

REPORT: Vijay Singh has used banned substance | 01/29/2013 9:04 PM
News
In an article at SI.com that is sure to gain the attention of everyone in the golf industry, Vijay Singh admits to using deer antler spray, which contains IGF-1, a banned substance on the PGA TOUR.
SportsIllustrated.CNN.com
Impact
IGF-1 is banned throughout professional sports due to its protective and recovery capabilities. Singh reportedly purchased the product from Sports with Alternatives to Steroids a/k/a S.W.A.T.S., a company known for assisting professional athletes with their performance. Here is the excerpt from the article in its entirety: Vijay Singh, however, remains a vocal supporter. In November, Singh paid Ross $9,000 for the spray, chips, beam ray and powder additive -- making him one of the few athletes who is compensating S.W.A.T.S. He says he uses the spray banned by the PGA "every couple of hours . . . every day," sleeps with the beam ray on and has put chips on his ankles, waist and shoulders. "I'm looking forward to some change in my body," Singh says. "It's really hard to feel the difference if you're only doing it for a couple of months." Stay tuned for a response from the TOUR. |
