Howell III was blemish-free for his first 11 holes, circling birdies on each of Quail Hollow's four par 5s and tacking on a fifth birdie at the difficult par-3 13th from 18'9". Overall, his play on the back nine was as sloppy as the conditions. His first bogey fell at the par-4 12th after a poor drive left him in jail. CH3 hasn't managed to crack a top 20 since his first appearance, but has made six of his nine cuts since. After top-three finishes in his first two starts of 2013 and earning a paycheck in nine of his first 10 starts, he's faded a bit with missed cuts in each of the last two weeks. There shouldn't be any rush to play him in most formats this week, as he's had better day and likely has a rebound coming in the future.

CH3 circed four birdies on his front nine, including a 37'11" bomb on the third and a 56'8" dagger on the ninth. He then tacked on two more coming to the house, with a 13-yard chip on the par-3 16th serving as the highlight. He needed a 14'1" putt to drop for par on the 17th to keep his scorecard perfect. With a par at the 18th, he ends his day and heads into an off week.

CH3 circled birdies from 2'3" on the first, 12'10" on the sixth and 4'4" on the 10th. Other than that, it was a pretty boring round. With the likes of Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods lighting up the leaderboard, it's highly unlikely that he will find himself in contention for a win on Sunday afternoon. That said, his form continues to stay sharp.

Howell III hit 13 greens and incurred just one bogey, but he was busy preventing a higher number. In addition to five birdies, three of which falling in from outside 10 feet including a gem from the fringe 10 yards away at the 16th hole, CH3 poured in two par saves that measured longer than 11 feet.

CH3 stumbled to a T29 at The Honda Classic with a Sunday 78, but he still gained one spot in FedExCup points to sit seventh after the first event on the Florida Swing. The top 10 in FedExCup points earn a tee time at TPC Blue Monster at Doral for next week's no-cut, limited-field affair. Joining him will be Russell Henley (3rd); Brian Gay (6th) and John Merrick (8th). Henley and Merrick will be making their debuts in the tournament.

Nary a week goes by it seems that CH3 doesn't penetrate our consciousness. He wrapped up the West Coast Swing with a first-round knockout of Tiger Woods at the WGC-Match Play before running out of gas. And since he's 3-for-3 at PGA National with a T10 and a pair of T26s, it makes sense that he's in contention again. Today he hit only 11 greens and went bogey-par-bogey on The Bear Trap, but he cleaned up well elsewhere. Howell III circled five birdies, including rolls from 18'1" at the first hole and 15'5" at 4.

Howell III looked to be poised to contend for the third consecutive week, but was only able to play the final 36-holes in 1-under. It's not a surprise that he cooled off a bit after scratching out top-three finishes in his first two starts. We now wait to see if he can make it four in a row at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

With 2013 off to a roaring start, it's no surprise that CH3 is once again inside the top 10 entering the final round of an event. His third round was rather uneventful, with just a bogey and two birdies to go with his 15 pars. Logic would dictate that the reason he isn't going any lower is the putter, as both of his birdies dropped from inside six feet. If he can roll the rock in the finale beginning later this afternoon, he could jump up and grab a top five.

This is CH3's first round of 10 this year where he's scored higher than 67. He hit 16 greens in regulation today and buried only two birdies. He missed four putts from inside 10 feet, two of which for par. Howell III reached the midpoint of the tournament in 6-under 132, five back of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

With a T3 and P2 already on the board in 2013, the natural progression points toward a victory this week. While he has just two in his career, don't rule it out. Howell III is 10-for-10 with two runner-up finishes, and he's tops in earnings among non-winners at the tournament. Today's round included an eagle and six birdies against two bogeys. He's one back of the clubhouse lead.

The two-time winner on the PGA TOUR circled 10 birdies in his navigation of the Palmer Private Course at PGA West, giving back two bogeys. He entered the final round trailing Scott Stallings by five strokes, but jumped on the birdie train early and often. After trading a birdie for a bogey on his first three holes, he went on a run where he rattled home five birdies in his next six holes. With one blemish on the back, he added four more on the back, but was unable to 2-putt for birdie from 83'4" on the par-5 18th. He will now wait to see what Scott Stallings does on the 18th with the hope that he avoids a playoff. He is scheduled to play at the Farmers Insurance Open.

CH3 played the Palmer Private Course at PGA West today, circling six birdies to just one bogey. Four of his birdies came on the easy par 5s, with the other two falling from 32'5" on the opening par four and 29'6" at the par-3 15th. His lone bogey was the result of a 3'8" par miss after a lag from over 60 feet. He enters the finale easily inside the top 10.

In a tournament like this, every stroke under par is like gold, except there are mass quantities of them. He opened with a 67 at La Quinta Country Club, so he'll tangle with Palmer Private in the third round. CH3 is lurking at 12-under 132, two strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Howell III has two runner-ups to his name on Waialae Country Club, so the third-place finish comes as a surprise to no one. He got within one of the lead when he rattled home an eagle from 15'8" on the par-5 ninth, but couldn't keep up with Russell Henley's torrid pace on the back. If there is a lesson to be learned from this, it's that CH3 must be a play at future Sony Open's in almost any fantasy format. He now must refocus, as the Humana Challenge awaits.

The veteran was a perfect three-for-three in sand saves on the back nine from greenside bunkers and twice found fairway bunkers leading to a birdie and a par. As illustrated, he struggled with his ball-striking but scrambled his way up the leaderboard. Given his struggles off the tee and with the irons, perhaps his only regret for the day will be failing to birdie the easy par-5 18th. The only thing missing from his resume at Waialae Country Club is a win, which he will try and snare in Sunday's finale.

CH3 stumbled early, bogeying the par-4 first hole where he failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker. He then hit 14 of his remaining 17 greens in regulation and found an eagle and five birdies against no bogeys. The eagle dropped in from 14'1" at the par-5 ninth hole. His most notable birdie measured 12'9" at 10. He's 10-under 130 at the midpoint, four strokes back of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
