Mark Wilson settled for a 2-over-par 36-38=74 in his opening round of THE PLAYERS.
This was Wilson's first live action since spraining his right ankle. It prevented him from competing at Quail Hollow last week. He hit just 10 greens and poured in two birdies today, both of which on par 5s. In addition to bogey at 6 and 18, he three-putted the par-3 13th from inside 35 feet for a double bogey. He'd go on to sign his card sitting 11 swings in arrears of the clubhouse lead.

Mark Wilson alerted his followers on Twitter on Monday why he withdrew from this week's Wells Fargo Championship.
Wilson wrote: "Sprained my right ankle; can't even see my ankle bones! No Wells Fargo but some ice and PT will get me ready for Players." (For the unaware, "PT" is physical therapy.) Even if he provides an update in advance of the PGA TOUR's flagship event, he's never had success at TPC Sawgrass, so you'd be holstering him anyway.

Mark Wilson has been removed from the published field of this week's Wells Fargo Championship.
This will give the veteran two weeks off entering next week's PLAYERS. Assuming he can give it a go, he'll have competed in just two of the last seven events, posting a top 10 in each.

Mark Wilson tied the low round of the day at the time of his posting in the final round of the RBC Heritage with a 1-under-par 36-34=70.
Wilson had to brave a day at Harbour Town with sustained winds of over 20 MPH and gusts up to 40. He traded two birdies for two bogeys on his outward nine, then added one more of each before reaching the 18th tee. After a solid drive, his approach found the putting surface 23'10" from the cup and he drained the birdie. Ending his week at 3-under 281, he stands a chance to nab a top 10 should the wind continue to wreak havoc on the remaining players. He is not in the field for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Mark Wilson escaped the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a 1-under-par 34-37=71 and becomes the first man in the clubhouse at 8-under 280.
Wilson is normally a quick starter on TOUR, but this marks his first top 10 of the season. He got out to a quick start with four birdies on his first 10 holes to just one bogey, but limped home with two bogeys over his final eight holes. He is not listed in the field for the Shell Houston Open.

Mark Wilson signed for a 2-under-par 36-34=70 in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to reach the 54-hole mark at 7-under 209.
Wilson's year hasn't gone to plan, but that could change if he is able to convert his first top-10 finish of the season in Sunday's final round. In his third lap around Bay Hill, he got off to a slow start with bogeys on his second and third holes. That would be it for the blemishes, and he would circle four birdies on his next eight holes before parring into the clubhouse. His only top-35 finish of the season came at the opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions, where he tied for 11th.

Mark Wilson is 5-under-par 71-68=139 through two rounds of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, four strokes off the pace of the 36-hole clubhouse leader, Bill Haas.
Wilson arrived at Bay Hill still in search of a spark to his 2013 season. After a T11 at the season-opening stop at Kapalua (which featured only 30 golfers), he's gone 2-for-6 with zero top 35s. Thus far this week, he's hit 25 greens in regulation and circled 10 birdies, five in each round. Today's set included three from beyond 11 feet, the longest of which dropping in from 14'11" at the eighth hole. He also converted par saves from 11'2" at No. 15 and 12'4" at 1.

Mark Wilson returns to the site of his first victory for The Honda Classic.
Wilson claimed the title in a playoff in 2007, making him the last American to hoist the trophy. Since that win, he's missed two cuts and finished no higher than T30 at PGA National. This season has not gone well for the normally quick starter. He broke a streak of three missed cuts with a T61 at the Northern Trust Open.

Mark Wilson opened his title defense of the Humana Challenge with a 5-over-par 38-39=77 at La Quinta Country Club.
Gulp. He wiped off two birdies in his outward nine with three bogeys and two doubles. Wilson played the par 5s in 3-over and probably eliminated his chances at going back-to-back. Robert Garrigus opened with a 73 last year but would eventually claw back to finish T2 and two strokes back, but Wilson is already four swings higher at the outset. The silver lining is that he'll play PGA West's Nicklaus Private in Friday's second round. The Nicklaus course was the easiest track on the PGA TOUR in 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Mark Wilson will step onto the first tee of the Humana Challenge as the defending champion.
Wilson's 24-under 264 was good for his fifth PGA TOUR title. He made his hay on the par 5s, racking up a 15-under total for the week in 16 chances. He also gained 2.107 strokes relative to the field per round with his flat stick, hitting 80.56 GIR. While we won't know until later in the week if he stands a chance at repeating, we do know to expect the winner to have to put up similar numbers on the easy par 5s.

Wilson's second round was in stark contrast to his blemish-free opening round. What did remain the same was his inability to figure out the Plantation Course's par 5s. Through two rounds and eight chances, he has failed to scratch out anything better than a par on Kapalua's par 5s. He still stands a chance at his career-best finish here. His previous high was a tie for 18th.

Wilson is making his fourth start on the Plantation Course, and has managed nothing better than a tie for 18th. He took advantage of the par 4s, racking up each of his four birides on Kapalua's medium-distance holes. His birdies ranged from a 29'8" bomb on the 10th, his first, hole and a kick-in from 2'6" on the third. He was shut out on the usually scorable par 5s. He will have to solve that riddle if he hopes to continue to contend as the tournament progresses.
