Drafted:Drafted by Tampa Bay in 1999 (1st round).
Acquired:Acquired as a free agent in 2012.
|Assets:||Phenomenally athletic, he has a big frame and a sweet, powerful lefty swing. Runs effortlessly and has a great outfield arm. Can bat for huge power and good average and is a clutch RBI producer.|
|Flaws:||Is a bit too injury-prone. Strikes out a little too much. Has struggled significantly with off-field issues, which have slightly curtailed his overall stardom, though he has overcome a lot of adversity.|

Hamilton goes 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs | 06/18/2013 2:03 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI against the Mariners on Monday.
ImpactComing off a Sunday off-day against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia, Hamilton teed off in an easier matchup, taking Aaron Harang deep for a two-run shot in the second. Hamilton owners, much like the Angels, are stuck in a holding pattern with the former top slugger. Nobody is going to take his .217/.273/.395 slash line off your hands and offer you value back, but it's unlikely that you have a more talented backup to insert into the lineup until Hamilton regains his stroke.
Josh Hamilton homers against Orioles | 06/11/2013 12:26 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against the Orioles on Monday.
ImpactThe homer was his first since May 26, but it gave him extra-base hits in five of the last six games. As expected, the Angels left Hamilton in the two hole even with Peter Bourjos back tonight. It probably won't prove permanent, but manager Mike Scioscia figures to stick with the alignment for at least another week or two.
Josh Hamilton batting second again Sunday | 06/09/2013 1:48 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton is in the No. 2 spot in the Angels' batting order for the third straight game Sunday.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactThe Angels are hoping that the slumping Hamilton will see more fastballs with Mike Trout on base and Albert Pujols behind him. He had two doubles in nine at-bats out of the two-hole on Saturday. Hamilton is sporting an ugly .216/.278/.385 batting line for the season.

NewsJosh Hamilton is not in Monday's lineup against the Astros.
Alden Gonzalez on Twitter
ImpactHe's presumably getting a day off to rest his back. Mark Trumbo is making the start in right field Monday while Albert Pujols serves at the DH and Brendan Harris plays first base.

NewsJosh Hamilton (back) is in Friday's lineup as the designated hitter.
Mike DiGiovanna on Twitter
ImpactHamilton missed his second game in the past three days Thursday due to back spasms, but he feels well enough to give it a go out of the DH spot. J.B. Shuck is starting in left field Friday.
Josh Hamilton out with back spasms again | 05/30/2013 8:23 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to back spasms.
Bill Shaikin on Twitter
ImpactIt's the second time in three days he's sat out with the ailment. Hamilton said he felt fine during Wednesday's game, but the Angels have determined that he's not 100 percent. He doesn't seem likely to need a DL stint.
Josh Hamilton (back) returns to Halos' lineup | 05/29/2013 5:53 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton (back) is in the Angels' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Dodgers.
Alden Gonzalez on Twitter
ImpactHamilton was scratched from Tuesday's game due to back spasms. It was never a major concern for the Halos.
Josh Hamilton scratched due to back spasms | 05/28/2013 9:38 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to back spasms.
Alden Gonzalez on Twitter
ImpactIt appears to be a precautionary move, as the Angels are hopeful that Hamilton will be available off the bench. Hamilton is batting .290/.405/.677 with three homers over his last nine games.
Hamilton launches seventh home run | 05/25/2013 5:09 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton launched his seventh home run of the season in a win over the Royals on Saturday.
ImpactLook who is finally showing some signs of life. After batting .202 with two homers over his first 32 games this season, Hamilton has gone deep five times in his last 17 games. The veteran outfielder wasn't a good bet to match his production from Texas to begin with, but he's surely better than he has shown early on.
Josh Hamilton hits two-run homer | 05/22/2013 1:07 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 2-for-5 and hit a two-run homer off Aaron Harang on Tuesday.
ImpactBefore the homer, Hamilton hadn't driven anyone except himself since April 29. It gave him his first multi-RBI game since April 14. Hamilton, though, is hitting better in May than he did early on; he's batting .250 with four homers and four doubles in 68 at-bats.
Josh Hamilton held out of Angels' lineup | 05/18/2013 2:54 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton has been scratched from Saturday's lineup against the White Sox.

NewsJosh Hamilton said after Monday's game that he has been playing through an illness for 10 days to two weeks.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactHamilton left Monday's game with what was originally described as "lightheadedness," but he's actually been fighting it for a while and began taking antibiotics on Saturday to battle what he suspects is a respiratory infection. The struggling outfielder hasn't considered asking for a day off.

ImpactHamilton was 2-for-3 with a double before being replaced by Luis Jimenez. He'll probably be back out there on Tuesday.
Josh Hamilton homers in Angels' win | 05/10/2013 12:26 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton homered, doubled and walked Thursday in the Angels' 6-5 victory over the Astros.
ImpactThe Angels protested the game in the seventh after the Astros were allowed to make a pitching change without their pitcher having thrown to a batter, but that went away after they overcame a 5-3 deficit to win. Hamilton has now homered in two straight. Wednesday's homer was a cheapy -- it wouldn't have been out in any park except Houston -- but tonight's was legit. He now has four homers and four doubles this season.
Hamilton connects for third homer vs. Astros | 05/09/2013 12:19 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season in the Angels' loss to the Astros on Wednesday.
ImpactIt was Hamilton's first home run since April 14, and the slugger is hitting just .205 through 33 games. What's more, all three of his home runs have come against his cellar-dwelling division foes. Still, the talent didn't erode overnight and Hamilton could turn it on at any time, making it tough to bench him. Maybe the homer Wednesday was a sign of good things to come.

NewsJosh Hamilton is not in the Angels' lineup Saturday.
Bill Shaikin on Twitter
ImpactNo word yet on the reason for his absence, but it's likely just a scheduled day of rest. J.B. Shuck is starting in left field, while Hank Conger is serving as the designated hitter.
Josh Hamilton goes 0-for-8 in 19 innings | 04/30/2013 4:48 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 0-for-8 with a sac fly and three strikeouts in Monday's loss.
ImpactHamilton's average dropped from .219 to .202 tonight, but at least the sac fly gave him his first RBI in two weeks. He still hasn't homered against any team except the Astros this season.
Hamilton to DH on Friday vs. Mariners | 04/26/2013 6:35 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton will serve as the designated hitter Friday against the Mariners.
Jeff Fletcher on Twitter
ImpactThis will be his first start out of the DH spot this season. Mark Trumbo is making the start in right field.
Josh Hamilton goes 4-for-4 | 04/23/2013 1:30 AM
NewsMaking his first start this season in the No. 5 spot, Josh Hamilton went 4-for-4 with four singles and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Rangers.
ImpactHamilton still hasn't had an extra-base hit in a week, but the Halos will certainly take the 4-for-4 effort. He's expected to continue batting fifth against left-handed pitching but will move back up to the cleanup spot against right-handers.
Hamilton dropped to fifth in order Monday | 04/22/2013 5:19 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton was dropped to fifth in the order for Monday's game against the Rangers.
Alden Gonzalez on Twitter
ImpactThere's been plenty of talk about the Angels potentially flip-flopping Hamilton and Albert Pujols in the order, but this isn't the change many had in mind. Pujols will remain in the No. 3 spot on Monday while Mark Trumbo will bat cleanup. Hamilton is hitting just .176/.247/.324 with two homers and 23 strikeouts over his first 68 at-bats this season.
Hamilton goes 0-for-3 on Saturday | 04/20/2013 6:08 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Angels' defeat of the Tigers on Saturday.
ImpactIt was a big day for the entire Anaheim offense except for Hamilton. He's batting .190/.254/.349 in 16 games since signing his five-year, $125 million contract.
Hamilton powers Angels to win over Houston | 04/14/2013 7:01 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's series-clinching win over the Astros.
ImpactHamilton hit a two-run shot off Rhiner Cruz late to give the Angels a 4-1 lead and also had a triple in the third inning. After a slow start, Hamilton is finally starting to get back on track. There's no reason why he can't keep this up with an upcoming series against the Twins this week.
Hamilton has two hits in loss to A's | 04/12/2013 1:16 AM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Athletics.
ImpactBoth hits were singles. It was just his second multi-hit game of the year. Hamilton is hitting an even .200 (7-for-35) through nine games and is still in search of his first home run. The Angels are now 2-7 on the year, their worst start since 1961.
Josh Hamilton rebounds with multi-hit game | 04/07/2013 11:39 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton went 3-for-5 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.
ImpactIt was his fourth multi-hit game in his last 27 games. After opening the year 1-for-20 with 10 strikeouts, Hamilton is finally showing some signs of life. He's batting .160 (4-for-25) with no home runs through six games this season.
Hamilton lost 20 pounds from last spring | 02/12/2013 3:40 PM
NewsJosh Hamilton has lost 20 pounds from last spring.
Alden Gonzalez on Twitter
ImpactYes, a best shape of his life story. Hamilton usually reports around 245 pounds, but he's at about 225 pounds this spring after eating better and limiting his caffeine intake. The 31-year-old appears determined to deliver on his five-year, $125 million contract, but he could see some drop-off playing half of his home games in Anaheim as opposed to the hitter-friendly Ballpark in Arlington.
Hamilton will likely bat cleanup for Angels | 01/23/2013 2:30 PM
NewsAngels general manager Jerry Dipoto said on MLB Network Radio on Wednesday that the club has discussed using Josh Hamilton out of the No. 2 spot in the batting order, but that he'll likely bat cleanup.
Jim Duquette on Twitter
ImpactSuch a bold move would give the Angels arguably the best 1-3 in baseball, but Hamilton will likely settle behind Albert Pujols in the batting order. Now that Torii Hunter is in Detroit, Erick Aybar is the favorite to open the season in the No. 2 spot.
