News
Raptors hire Bobby Webster as VP of Basketball Management and Strategy.
Raptors.com

Impact
Webster will assist Masai Ujiri, who said he was "delighted" to have Webster aboard. "His skill set will be valuable in a number of areas, and his experience and knowledge of the CBA and its complexities from a League level will be a great asset to the organization."
Ujiri would have left Denver even w/ a match | 06/07/2013 1:16 PM
News
Even if the Nuggets matched the offer on GM Masai Ujiri, he still would have left Denver for Toronto, according to Nuggets president Josh Kroenke.
Benjamin Hochman on Twitter

Impact
Kroenke added that the relationships in Toronto were a big factor for Ujiri to head north of the border. Ujiri did a solid job with the Nuggets, including getting a nice return on the Carmelo Anthony deal, but he has a tall order in attempting to turn the Raptors around.
Report: Raptors targets Bucks exec Weltman | 06/05/2013 4:41 PM
News
The Raptors are aggressively pursuing Bucks assistant GM Jeff Weltman for a position in their new-look front office, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Marc Stein on Twitter

Impact
Weltman originally helped lure new Raptors GM Masai Ujiri to Denver and it appears Ujiri is attempting to return the favor. Ujiri took on one hell of a rebuilding process in Toronto and will need all the help he can get to turn around a franchise that's been cellar dwellers for most of its existence.
New GM calls Jonas Valanciunas a 'huge piece' | 06/04/2013 4:52 PM
News
New GM Masai Ujiri called Jonas Valanciunas a "huge piece" of the franchise.
National Post

Impact
Ujiri faint praise of Andrea Bargnani sounded forced, but he gushed about Valanciunas. ƒ?oHuge piece. Huge. Fantastic young talent. ... The progress Jonas has made, the passion he shows and the hard work he puts into it, I feel he has a bright future," Ujiri said. In 27 games after the All-Star break, Valanciunas averaged 11.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 82.9 percent from the line. Entering his second NBA season at age 21, Jonas is a core building block of both the Raptors and Dynasty rosters.
GM: Casey's status not yet decided as coach | 06/04/2013 11:30 AM
News
New GM Masai Ujiri stopped short of guaranteeing Dwane Casey would return as Raptors coach next season.
Eric Koreen on Twitter

Impact
Two reports suggested the Raptors are likely to keep Casey, and while Ujiri said he doesn't see "any reason why Dwane won't be back," he also said he needs to have a longer conversation with Casey and understand his philosophies as it relates to the players currently on the roster. Ujiri is not being transparent in his initial answers and will work to install his own regime. Casey has one year left on his deal.
Masai Ujiri officially announced as Raps GM | 06/04/2013 11:18 AM
News
Masai Ujiri was officially introduced as the Raptors general manager on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Ujiri said he "came home" at his press conference, and he seemed genuinely excited about the opportunity ahead. He'll have plenty of work to do, starting with the evaluation of Andrea Bargnani and how to ship him out of town.
Masai Ujiri to be introduced on Tuesday | 06/03/2013 12:20 PM
News
Masai Ujiri will be introduced as new Raptors GM on Tuesday.
Ryan Wolstat on Twitter

Impact
Ujiri has already been doing plenty of work during his brief time on the job to this point, but the Raptors will officially announce his arrival in a press conference on Tuesday.
Report: Raptors to keep Casey as head coach | 06/03/2013 9:04 AM
News
The Raptors are expected to keep Dwane Casey as head coach, sources confirmed to the Toronto Star.
Toronto Star

Impact
Casey has already met with new GM Masai Ujiri and MLSE's Tim Leiweke, and he would have likely been already shown the door if he were on his way out. With one year left on his contract and a new regime in place, Casey will enter next season as a lame duck.
Masai Ujiri starts to clean house | 06/02/2013 2:34 PM
News
Raptors scout Maury Hanks has been let go by new general manager Masai Ujiri, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter

Impact
Ujiri is going to try and start fresh in Toronto, but who can blame him with the Raptors struggling? Even though Hanks has been held in high regard in the NBA, Ujiri is going to hire his own personnel to try and get the franchise on its feet.
Raptors fire executive VP Ed Stefanski | 06/02/2013 12:12 PM
News
New Raptors GM Masai Ujiri fired some of the team's scouting department on Sunday, along with executive VP Ed Stefanski.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter

Impact
Stefanski had one year left on his contract but Ujiri didn't want him as part of his decision-making cadre. He was formerly GM of the 76ers and he had developed a solid reputation working under Bryan Colangelo in Toronto, so he's expected to find another high-level NBA job before long.
Report: Trading Bargnani is Ujiri's priority | 06/01/2013 12:44 PM
News
New Raptors GM Masai Ujiri's first order of business will be shopping Andrea Bargnani to the entire league in hopes of moving him before July 1, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
Marc Stein on Twitter

Impact
This is fairly similar to the first order of business under former GM Bryan Colangelo. It will be interesting to see if Ujiri has any better luck than his predecessor, who never moved Bargnani despite publicly admitting a desire to do so. Bargnani's injury history and contract remain a large impediment to getting a deal done, but it's possible Ujiri will simply be looking to unload the contract to anyone with cap space, which could make trading the former No. 1 overall pick easier.
Report: Raptors likely to keep Casey as coach | 05/31/2013 6:28 PM
News
New Raptors GM Masai Ujiri is expected to keep Dwane Casey on as head coach.
Yahoo Sports

Impact
Casey has one year left on his contract. He'll play out the season and then Ujiri will reevaluate the situation. It's not particularly good news for the outlook of Kyle Lowry, who battled with Casey for much of the year. Lowry never appeared comfortable with his role while averaging just 11.6 points and 6.4 assists.
GM Masai Ujiri leaves Nuggets to join Raptors | 05/31/2013 5:34 PM
News
Raptors hired Masai Ujiri as their new general manager.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter

Impact
Ujiri lands a five-year, $15 million deal to try to fix the mess in Toronto. It's reportedly far more than the Nuggets were offering to retain the 2012-13 NBA Executive of the Year. While in Denver, Ujiri got an impressive haul for Carmelo Anthony, found a diamond in the rough in Kenneth Faried and dumped Nene at the right time. He'll have to work similar magic with a Toronto roster that hasn't made the playoffs since 2007-08. Ujiri does know the Toronto landscape well as he was Bryan Colangelo's assistant GM before taking the Denver job.
Andrea Bargnani to play at Eurobasket tourney | 05/27/2013 8:34 AM
News
Andrea Bargnani confirmed he'll play at the Eurobasket tournament.
Sportando

Impact
This is good news considering Bargnani had his season ended by an elbow injury he sustained early in the year. Bargnani also acknowledged his uncertain future once again and left the door open for a trade, but it appears his elbow will be good to go in advance of the tournament and he should be able to enter next season at full strength.
Report: Raptors want Pacers GM in Toronto | 05/24/2013 11:50 AM
News
The Raptors are pursuing Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard to "head up" their basketball operations, sources told CBS Sports.
CBS Sports

Impact
Rumored to have an eye on Phil Jackson originally, the Raptors then reportedly set their sights on Denver GM Masai Ujiri, and now have moved on again, this time to Pritchard. According to Berger, OKC assistant GM Troy Weaver is also on Toronto's radar.
Raptors still looking to move Andrea Bargnani | 05/22/2013 8:58 AM
News
The Raptors remain interested in trading Andrea Bargnani, according to president Bryan Colangelo.
Toronto Sun

Impact
"I still would say there's value in Andrea as a player," said Colangelo. "I get the fact that a change of scenery is probably best for all sides. I've publicly acknowledged that but, again, the new guy is going to have to decide how to handle it and there are a few options." Colangelo is referencing the new general manager who has yet to be hired, and we'd bet Bargnani starts next season elsewhere. It's hard to see the Raptors getting anything of real value in return for the former No. 1 overall pick.
Report: Colangelo to stay a Raptors president | 05/21/2013 10:49 AM
News
MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke said Bryan Colangelo will stay with the Raptors as team president, but he will not be general manager.
Michael Grange on Twitter

Impact
This is quickly turning into an embarrassing mess for the Raptors. After it was reported Colangelo would move into a corporate role, he'll remain with the team as president, but the new GM will report directly to Leiweke, not Colangelo. The new GM will have final say on draft, trades, contracts and coach, and Colangelo's role will include consulting and "expanding Raptors footprint nationally."
Report: Ujiri, Stafanski candidates for Raps | 05/21/2013 8:44 AM
News
Denver GM Masai Ujiri and Raptors vice-president of basketball operations Ed Stafanski are two candidates to assume control of basketball-related decisions for the Raptors.
The Globe & Mail

Impact
The Raptors are going hard after Ujiri and could be prepared to make a lavish offer to him, while Stafanski currently works for the team. The future of head coach Dwane Casey is very much up in the air and a decision on his status will likely be made by whatever candidate replaces Bryan Colangelo, but it's too early to tell what may happen there.
Report: Colangelo takes corporate role w/ TOR | 05/20/2013 11:05 AM
News
Updating a previous item, Bryan Colangelo will remain at MLSE in a "corporate" role in a non-basketball capacity.
Doug Smith on Twitter

Impact
In other words, Colangelo is out as Raptors lead man with respect to basketball decisions. MLSE will continue its search for a new head of the Raptors organization with Denver's GM Masai Ujiri firmly in sight.
Report: Colangelo to return in another role? | 05/20/2013 10:48 AM
News
Updating a previous item, Bryan Colangelo could return to the Raptors in a "significant capacity," but may be removed as general manager.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter

Impact
The MLSE had been "negotiating" with Colangelo regarding his role, and it's looking like only a matter of time until his dismissal as the decision-maker is made official. Masai Ujiri worked for the Raptors before he became Nuggets GM and the Raptors are reportedly interested in bringing him back to Toronto.
Report: Raptors expected to dismiss Colangelo | 05/20/2013 8:30 AM
News
Bryan Colangelo's fate as Raptors GM is expected to be decided on Monday, and "barring a stunning turn of events, it is expected" that he will be fired.
Toronto Sun

Impact
Colangelo has guided the Raptors to the playoffs just twice during his time on the job. If Colangelo is given his dismissal, it's not clear where Toronto could turn to next, but we're guessing another round of Phil Jackson rumors will get thrown into the fire despite the fact they've been debunked previously. Colangelo's major acquisition this year was Rudy Gay.
Aaron Gray reportedly exercises player option | 05/18/2013 1:21 PM
News
Aaron Gray exercised the $2.6 million player option in his contract, according to beat writer Josh Lewenberg.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
Much like his teammate Linas Kleiza, Gray has no reason to decline the option. The five-year veteran had fits of fantasy usefulness in very deep leagues but is mostly an end-of-the-bench player. He averaged 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game.
Linas Kleiza reportedly exercises option | 05/18/2013 1:14 PM
News
Linas Kleiza reportedly exercised the $4.6 million player option in his contract, according to beat writer Josh Lewenberg.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone because there's no way Kleiza's getting anything close to that much on the open market. Kleiza barely played this season due to injuries and then was shut down by the Raptors for the final month of the season despite being healthy. He's candidate for Toronto's amnesty clause.
Report: Raptors targeting Nuggets GM Ujiri | 05/18/2013 11:13 AM
News
The Raptors are targeting Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri to run their basketball operations, league sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Yahoo! Sports

Impact
This comes one day after the Toronto Star reported that Maple League Sports & Entertainment has until Monday to decide whether to pick up the option on GM Bryan Colangelo's contract. Ujiri was named 2013 Executive of the Year by the NBA only nine days ago but is without a contract beyond this summer. The Nuggets have said they're not concerned about keeping him, knowing full well they'll likely have to pay the price to do so. However, Ujiri spent three years in Toronto's front office before heading to Denver and sources tell Yahoo! that could make this a difficult decision for him.
Report: MLSE has Monday deadline on Colangelo | 05/17/2013 3:26 PM
News
Maple League Sports & Entertainment has until Monday to decide whether to pick up the option on GM Bryan Colangelo's contract, league sources told the Toronto Star.
Toronto Star

Impact
At this point, it seems highly unlikely that Colangelo will remain, especially considering that the Star also reported MLSE and new CEO Tim Leiweke have hired a head-hunting firm to help whittle down possible candidates to replace Colangelo. Although Phil Jackson's name has been mentioned in connection with the GM position, the hiring a search firm makes that seem less likely. The Star mentioned Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard and Thunder assistant GM Troy Weaver as possible candidates if/when Colangelo is let go.
Raptors 'lean toward' replacing GM Colangelo? | 05/13/2013 12:06 AM
News
The Raptors may be "leaning toward" replacing GM Bryan Colangelo, according to the National Post.
National Post

Impact
Previous reports suggested that Colangelo's job was safe, so this complicates the picture. The decision rests with Tim Leiweke, the new CEO of Maple League Sports & Entertainment. Leiweke already made an overture to Phil Jackson, but regardless of Colangelo's fate it's considered unlikely that the Zen Master will join the Raptors as more than an advisor. The suspense won't last much longer, as a decision on Colangelo is "imminent" and could be announced as soon as Monday.
Report: Raptors likely to keep GM Colangelo | 05/12/2013 9:06 AM
News
The Raptors are expected to pick up the final year on GM Bryan Colangelo's contract, with an official announcement coming as early as Monday.
Toronto Sun

Impact
Phil Jackson has recently been tied to the Raptors, but those rumors would cease if the team does pick up Colangelo's final year. BC has already said that he'll retain Dwane Casey as head coach, as Raptors management seems very wary of change for its own sake.
Raptors expected to retain Dwane Casey | 05/12/2013 9:04 AM
News
The Raptors are expected to retain coach Dwane Casey this summer, though his staff may change in the coming weeks.
Toronto Sun

Impact
The Toronto Sun reports that during the 2012-13 season there was "a disconnect between the coaching staff and the players, an issue that led to dysfunction." Assistant coach Johnny Davis has a particularly uncertain future with the team, but it seems Casey's job is safe for as long as the Raptors keep GM Bryan Colangelo.
Report: Colangelo's fate to be decided soon | 05/09/2013 10:47 AM
News
GM Bryan Colangelo's fate with the Raptors is expected to be decided "soon," according to the Toronto Sun.
Toronto Sun

Impact
Colangelo met with Tim Leiweke this week to state his case, but no decisions have been made. If Colangelo is let go, it will surely fire up the Phil Jackson to Toronto rumors. Dwane Casey's status as head coach is unclear in the event that Colangelo is not retained, but the Raptors picked up his option for the coming season previously.
Jonas Valanciunas to play in Eurobasket | 05/08/2013 9:20 AM
News
Jonas Valanciunas will play in the 2013 EuroBasket tournament.
Sportando

Impact
Valanciunas' Lithuanian coach confirmed the Raptors' prized big man will be a part of the team. Valanciunas will also play in summer league for Toronto, so he's got a busy offseason ahead.
Rudy Gay undergoes procedure on eye | 04/26/2013 3:55 PM
News
Rudy Gay underwent a procedure to correct vision in his left eye Friday.
Raptors on Twitter

Impact
Gay refused to wear contact lenses and didn't feel comfortable in goggles. So he was simply playing with impaired vision. After shooting just 41.8 percent from the field this season, it was time for the procedure. Gay is a decent bet to get back to his career average of 45.0 percent shooting next season.
Report: Bargnani has no standalone value | 04/23/2013 4:10 PM
News
Sources tell the Toronto Sun that the Raptors would have to include an asset in order to trade Andrea Bargnani.
Toronto Sun

Report: Rudy Gay refuses to wear contacts | 04/23/2013 11:30 AM
News
Rudy Gay, who has a vision issue, has refused to wear contact lenses for "years," a source told the National Post.
National Post

Impact
Interesting if true. Gay's vision problems are expected to be addressed in the offseason, but an outright refusal to wear contacts would mean that Gay was playing at less than to the best of his abilities. One way or another, we expect the vision issues to be corrected in the offseason.
Report: Casey, Colangelo safe in Raptorland | 04/23/2013 9:23 AM
News
Sources tell the Toronto Sun that both GM Bryan Colangelo and coach Dwane Casey are expected to return next season.
Toronto Sun

Impact
There are a number of Raptors fans who would be glad to see Colangelo go, but it doesn't seem like ownership is intent on making a change at this time. That could certainly change after another disappointing season in Toronto, but both men appear safe for now.
Gay to address vision issues during offseason | 04/22/2013 6:00 PM
News
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo says Rudy Gay has a vision problem and will address it during the offseason.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
Gay experimented with wearing goggles during practice this season and there was thought at the time that he might have a deficiency in one of his eyes. Colangelo said Monday that Gay may end up going further than wearing goggles in the future. Gay struggled shooting the ball this season but did improve after joining the Raptors at the trade deadline, including hitting 48 percent from the field during nine April contests.
Colangelo denies reports of rift with Casey | 04/22/2013 5:26 PM
News
Bryan Colangelo denied a rift between he and coach Dwane Casey and said Casey will remain the coach if Colangelo stays as general manager.
Toronto Star

Impact
"I can absolutely tell you that coach Casey and I get along in a way that most coaches and management people do: We challenge each other," Colangelo said Monday. Of course, no one's quite sure if Colangelo will be retained by ownership. Colangelo has an option year left on his contract, which the team has yet to exercise. Colangelo expects that decision to be made in the next two to three weeks, at which point we should know Casey's likely fate as well.
Kyle Lowry was never healthy all season long | 04/22/2013 11:40 AM
News
Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo said he wasn't sure if Kyle Lowry was ever fully healthy this season.
Eric Koreen on Twitter

Impact
Lowry has developed a reputation as a bulldog, but it's always some kind of nagging injury that holds him back during the season, and that was especially true after he had offseason surgery before debuting in Toronto. He dealt with a few different things this season and wound up playing in 68 games. Colangelo also revealed that the two sides aren't having any conversations regarding a contract extension at this time.
Casey: Terrence Ross needs to improve on D | 04/22/2013 10:35 AM
News
Dwane Casey said Terrence Ross needs to improve on defense.
Paul Jones on Twitter

Impact
"He needs to learn and not take defensive possessions off," Casey said. Ross' defense was a subject of conversation throughout the year, but especially toward the end of the year when he looked tired and just trying to get to the finish line. It's a normal part of the learning process for a rookie.
Dwane Casey wants Colangelo to stay as GM | 04/18/2013 3:39 PM
News
Dwayne Casey said he wants Bryan Colangelo to remains as Raptors general manager when his contract expires in July.
Toronto Sun

Impact
That's not exactly surprising. Colangelo hired Casey and a new GM may very well want to hire his own coach. Colangelo has done a good job of drafting some young talent and the Rudy Gay trade looks good enough for the time being, but Toronto has missed the playoffs the last five seasons in a normally weak Eastern Conference. Time will tell on Colangelo, but if he goes, Casey's days are likely numbered.
Landry Fields plays well off bench | 04/17/2013 11:31 PM
News
Landry Fields had eight points, 11 boards and three assists in 28 minutes on Wednesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He had a wasted season in Toronto and could be in for more of the same next year, as DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay will keep him glued to the bench on most nights.
Alan Anderson plays well in last game | 04/17/2013 11:30 PM
News
Alan Anderson had 16 points and two 3-pointers in 16 minutes on Wednesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He's not likely to be back with the Raptors next season, and while he'll likely catch on with another team, it's doubtful that he'll ever have much fantasy value.
Jonas Valanciunas plays well in final game | 04/17/2013 11:29 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas had 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks on 6-of-10 shooting in 29 minutes on Wednesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
His rookie season is in the books and the sky's the limit for the talented big man. He should make for a very solid choice at center in all fantasy leagues next year, as he appears to be locked into the starting role until further notice.
Terrence Ross won't play on Wednesday night | 04/17/2013 7:06 PM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) will not play in the regular-season finale Wednesday night.
Raptors on Twitter

Impact
Ross aggravated his left ankle injury during the fourth quarter Tuesday so it's no surprise he's sitting out tonight. Ross needs to get his ankle healthy because his game needs some definite work this offseason.

Valanciunas returns and looks good Tuesday | 04/16/2013 11:05 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas returned to the lineup from his neck injury, scoring 13 points with eight boards and three blocks in 33 minutes against the Hawks on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He looked healthy in this game and shot 4-of-5 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. The Raptors may have found their center for the future and he's really come on strong lately. JV averaged 14.6 points, 5.2 boards and 2.2 blocks on 51.4 percent shooting in his previous April games and he's likely going to be someone to target in drafts next season.
DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay crush ATL | 04/16/2013 10:58 PM
News
DeMar DeRozan shot 11-of-17 from the field for 30 points with one board and three 3-pointers in 28 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Shockingly, it was his second game in a row with three treys, which doesn't even make sense considering he hadn't put up a multiple-triple game since February 1 before these two games. DD isn't really suited for fantasy with his lack of diversity, so he'll always be a player that should go in the second half of drafts.
Rudy Gay scored 22 points vs. Atlanta | 04/16/2013 10:50 PM
News
Rudy Gay made three 3-pointers in Tuesday's win over the Hawks, scoring 22 points with four boards, five assists and one steal on 9-of-14 shooting.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He's finishing his season on a high note and now has 22.5 points per game in his last four. Gay has also hit 10 triples and earned nine steals in that span. His fantasy value should hold up nicely in Toronto next season.
Terrence Ross sprains ankle again | 04/16/2013 10:22 PM
News
Terrence Ross aggravated his left ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game and went to the locker room.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He could barely walk and it's probably safe to assume that the rookie is done for the year. Ross finished with eight points, two boards and three steals in 18 minutes. He'll be remembered for winning the Slam Dunk Contest, but his game needs some work in the offseason.
Terrence Ross ready to go for Raptors | 04/16/2013 7:02 PM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) is expected to play in Tuesday's game against the Hawks.
Eric Smith on Twitter

Impact
Ross was reportedly available on Sunday as well, but he didn't get in the game. With DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay hogging wing minutes, there's no upside here anyway.
Jonas Valanciunas back in action for Raptors | 04/16/2013 6:57 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) will play in Tuesday's game against the Hawks.
Eric Smith on Twitter

Impact
It will be Valanciunas' first game in a week, but he's right back into the starting lineup. For owners looking to gobble up big-man stats on this two-game night, he's worth a roll of the dice. In the five games before going down, Valanciunas was averaging 14.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per night. The Raptors starting five: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Amir Johnson and Valanciunas.
Jonas Valanciunas' status still in doubt | 04/16/2013 4:55 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) remains questionable for Tuesday's game against the Hawks.
Toronto Star

Impact
Valanciunas did travel to Atlanta for the game, but it's unclear if he participated in the shootaround. For what it's worth, the Toronto Star lists the Raptors' "probable" starters as Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Amir Johnson and Aaron Gray. We'll have official word on Valanciunas' status about an hour before the 8 p.m. ET tip.
Amir Johnson just misses a double-double | 04/14/2013 8:48 PM
News
Amir Johnson just missed a double-double on Sunday with 10 points and nine boards in a 93-87 win over the Nets.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
In true Amir fashion, he picked up his first foul with two second off the clock on the game's opening tip. Amir is tied with Dwight Howard for the lead in fouls per game with 3.8 despite playing 7.1 minutes per game less. Fouling aside, he has several tools to be a fantasy stud and is worth starting in all leagues.
Kyle Lowry stinks on offense | 04/14/2013 8:43 PM
News
Kyle Lowry shot 2-of-10 from the field for seven points with nine boards and six assists in 37 minutes against the Nets on Sunday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
It hasn't been pretty for Lowry and since the All-Star break he's averaged 10 points, five boards, seven assists and 1.3 triples on 39 percent shooting. He should have every opportunity to redeem himself with the Raptors having a team option for next season.
Rudy Gay scores 26 with 10 boards | 04/14/2013 8:40 PM
News
Rudy Gay had his second consecutive big outing on Sunday with 26 points, 10 boards, three assists, three steals, one block and three 3-pointers against the Nets.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He put up a 23-point, five-steal, three-block gem on Friday in a win and now Toronto has won three in a row and five of their last six. Gay has been a bit inconsistent all year, but he's finishing on a high note.
Landry Field is back for Sunday's game | 04/14/2013 2:40 PM
News
Landry Field (strep throat) is back for the Raptors to play against the Nets on Sunday.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
He missed the last two games and he's probably not going to be a big factor in today's game. Fields has played just 14.8 minutes per game in his last four games and has minimal fantasy value.
Terrence Ross back in action on Sunday | 04/14/2013 2:28 PM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) will return to the lineup on Sunday vs. Brooklyn.
Raptors PR on Twitter

Impact
He missed Friday's action with a sprained ankle as well as Saturday's practice. The Raptors might want to get an extended look at their rookie for the rest of the season, so he'll be worth watching in fantasy leagues at the very least.
Jonas Valanciunas out vs. BK, Ross in | 04/14/2013 2:25 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) will not play against the Nets on Sunday.
Raptors PR on Twitter

Impact
After not practicing on Saturday, the Raptors made him a game-time decision. Valanciunas had to go to the hospital on Tuesday with his neck injury to check for whiplash and the team is taking it slow with him. There's a decent chance he can play on Tuesday against the Hawks. If Amir Johnson avoids foul trouble, he should have a big day against the Nets. Quincy Acy and Terrence Ross should also get some extra playing time.
Kyle Lowry gaining freedom, scoring little | 04/14/2013 11:33 AM
News
Dwane Casey has begun letting Kyle Lowry call the offense on about 40 percent of the Raptors' sets, and he's happy with the results.
Toronto Sun

Impact
"I'm not looking to shoot as much," said Lowry, whose assists have increased. "Of course I believe I can score the ball if I shoot more but [Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan] are the scorers ... I will sacrifice to win games." K-Low's team-first attitude is refreshing, even if he's averaging just 10.3 points in April. With a $6.2 million team option for next season, it's very likely that he'll remain with the Raptors this summer.
Landry Fields returns to practice Saturday | 04/13/2013 3:41 PM
News
Landry Fields (strep throat) returned to practice on Saturday.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
He did not play on Friday due to an illness and also sat out on Tuesday for other reasons. Fields' three-year, $19 million contract from this past offseason seems to make less sense every day that goes by.
Terrence Ross (ankle) sits out of practice | 04/13/2013 3:36 PM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) did not practice on Saturday and is a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Nets.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
He was unable to go on Friday with the ankle sprain and his absence may have helped Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan score a combined 42 points vs. Chicago. Ross can be left on the wire.
Valanciunas (neck) is a game-call call Sunday | 04/13/2013 3:34 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) did not practice on Saturday and is a game-time call for Sunday's game against the Nets.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
He missed Friday's game against the Bulls, but he did some light cardio on Saturday and there's a chance he can play. Quincy Acy just missed a double-double on Friday and would benefit from JV sitting out again. Amir Johnson should be considered a must-start either way.
Kyle Lowry flirts with a triple-double | 04/12/2013 10:51 PM
News
Kyle Lowry just missed a triple-double in Friday's 97-88 win over the Bulls with 13 points, nine boards and 11 assists in 36 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He hasn't really been making a ton of headlines, but he can do it all as evident by tonight's performance. His owners probably aren't pleased with him not cracking the top 100 in standard leagues over the past month and he could be a bargain next year. Rudy Gay (23 points, five steals, three blocks and one 3-pointer) was great while DeMar DeRozan was solid with 19 points.
Amir Johnson puts up 24 vs. Chicago | 04/12/2013 10:47 PM
News
Amir Johnson was a monster in the paint against the Bulls on Friday, shooting 10-of-15 from the field for 24 points with nine boards, two assists, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
It was just the seventh 3-pointer of his career and while he's been fantastic in field goal shooting with a career 58 percent, he's not exactly Stephen Curry from downtown. Johnson should be a beast while Jonas Valanciunas is out and is a must-start player.
Acy just misses a double-double vs. CHI | 04/12/2013 10:40 PM
News
Quincy Acy just missed a double-double in Friday's game against the Bulls with 10 points, nine boards, one steal and three blocks in a career-high 35 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He broke a career-high 27 minutes that he set on Tuesday and he'll be the winner of the Jonas Valanciunas injury news. If you're looking for a big with a decent upside, Acy could be your guy.
Landry Fields out Friday due to illness | 04/12/2013 5:56 PM
News
Landry Fields (strep throat) will not play in Friday's game against the Bulls.
Raptors on Twitter

Impact
Fields would have had a chance for minutes thanks to Terrence Ross' ankle sprain, but he's too sick to go. Fields is averaging just 17.5 minutes per game since the All-Star break.
Terrence Ross, Valanciunas both out for TOR | 04/12/2013 5:54 PM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) will not play in Friday's game against the Bulls.
Raptors on Twitter

Impact
Landry Fields (strep throat) is also out, leaving starting wings Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan to log monster minutes.
Jonas Valanciunas will not play on Friday | 04/12/2013 11:36 AM
News
Updating a previous item, Jonas Valanciunas (neck) will not play on Friday vs. Chicago.
Raptors Media Relations on Twitter

Impact
We never expected to see Valanciunas back as early as Friday, and now he's been officially ruled out. Expect Amir Johnson to play heavy minutes without the rookie available, and Valanciunas will likely be day-to-day going forward.
Terrence Ross a game-time decision Friday | 04/12/2013 9:03 AM
News
Terrence Ross (ankle) will be a game-time decision on Friday vs. Chicago.
Toronto Star

Impact
Ross left Thursday's practice with "a huge ice bag on his left ankle," so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sit out. He hasn't exceeded 28 minutes since the end of March in any game and isn't an option for owners in standard formats.
Jonas Valanciunas spotted without neck brace | 04/12/2013 9:01 AM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck), who is a game-time decision for Friday, was spotted without his neck brace after Thursday's practice.
Toronto Star

Impact
We'll caution that this isn't necessarily a sign that he'll play on Friday as the team will treat their prized rookie with kid gloves, but it's a positive indication that the injury isn't too serious. We should get an update on Valanciunas after Friday morning's shootaround, but Amir Johnson would be in line for big minutes if the rookie sits.
Jonas Valanciunas a game-time decision Friday | 04/11/2013 3:19 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) is still in a soft neck brace and is being considered a game-time decision for Friday night.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
Valanciunas suffered what the team called a "flexion extension injury" during Tuesday's game. While the injury and the fact that Valanciunas was rushed to the hospital originally had us thinking the worst, coach Dwane Casey said Thursday the injury is not as bad as first thought. We still highly doubt Valanciunas will play Friday and expect the Raptors to treat the prized rookie with the softest of kids gloves the rest of the season.
Terrence Ross tweaked ankle during practice | 04/11/2013 3:13 PM
News
Terrence Ross tweaked his ankle during practice Thursday and his status for Friday's game is unknown.
Josh Lewenberg on Twitter

Impact
Ross apparently hobbled out of the gym with an ice wrap on his ankle. If he sprained the ankle, we're guessing he'll miss at least one game, but it's impossible to know for the moment. We'll sideline him for now and tag him as questionable for Friday night. If we don't hearing anything new today, we should know something at Friday's shootaround.
Casey praises Acy for toughness he brings | 04/11/2013 8:46 AM
News
Dwane Casey praised Quincy Acy for the "toughness" he brings to the team.
Toronto Sun

Impact
"He brings that toughness, that edge that we need and that Quincy plays with," Casey said. Acy will see some extra minutes if Jonas Valanciunas (neck) is forced to miss some time.
Jonas Valanciunas to be reevaluated Thursday | 04/10/2013 11:25 AM
News
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) sustained a "flexion extension injury" and will be reevaluated on Thursday in Toronto.
Raptors Media Relations on Twitter

Impact
The Raptors don't play again until Friday against the Bulls, but we can't imagine Valanciunas will be available for that one considering the team will treat their prized rookie with kid gloves. As defined by medical-dictionary.com, the injury is a "forceful application of a forward and backward movement of the unsupported head that may produce an injury to the cervical spine or the brain." We will know more when he's reevaluated later in the week. Amir Johnson stands to see an even larger role if Valanciunas has to sit the rest of the way. Beat writer Mike Ganter reported Valanciunas is "fine other than an uncomfortable neck brace."
Quincy Acy plays 27 minutes in win | 04/10/2013 12:18 AM
News
Quincy Acy played a season-high 27 minutes and hit 2-of-5 shots for eight points, six rebounds, an assist, steal and block on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He had 13 on Saturday and it looks like the Raptors are prepared to give him a close look off the Raptors bench. Just keep an eye on him.
Alan Anderson plays just six minutes | 04/10/2013 12:17 AM
News
Alan Anderson played just six minutes on Tuesday, finishing with three points.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He's just not getting enough run to be used in fantasy leagues, as the Raptors are giving his minutes to Terrence Ross and Quincy Acy right now.
Terrence Ross scores 13 off bench | 04/10/2013 12:15 AM
News
Terrence Ross hit 5-of-9 shots and two 3-pointers for 13 points and two rebounds on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He's starting to wear down in his rookie season, but as long as he's getting minutes, he's worth a look in fantasy leagues. Alan Anderson played just six minutes tonight, which is a good sign for Ross going forward.
Kyle Lowry double-doubles in tough win | 04/10/2013 12:14 AM
News
Kyle Lowry hit 6-of-11 shots and a 3-pointer for 13 points, three rebounds, 10 assists and two steals in Tuesday's win over the Bulls.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Lowry has double-doubled in two of his last four games, and while he's still not the offensive dynamo owners were hoping for, he is still helping fantasy owners when he plays like this.
Jonas Valanciunas (neck) taken to hospital | 04/09/2013 10:58 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas suffered a neck injury in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game and was taken to Rush Presbyterian Hospital.
Mike Ganter on Twitter

Impact
He will be checked for whiplash and the medical staff at the arena fitted him for a neck brace while putting him on the stretcher. We'll update you once we get word on his status, but chances are that he will miss Friday's game. JV finished with eight points and three boards in 23 minutes.
Amir Johnson has twisted ankle several times | 04/09/2013 9:13 AM
News
Amir Johnson has twisted his ankle "several times this year," but he's missed just one game all season.
National Post

Impact
The one game he missed wasn't because of injury, but rather a suspension. Over the last two seasons, the Raptors are minus-571 points when Johnson is off the floor and plus-170 when he's on it, an indication of how valuable he is to this team. One of the most under-appreciated players in the league and a Rotoworld favorite, Johnson is the definition of a warrior.
Quincy Acy scores season-high 13 points | 04/06/2013 11:22 PM
News
Quincy Acy scored a season-high 13 points against the Bucks with two boards, two assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
It was an ugly game for the Raptors. The team shot 36.1 percent and the starters were even worse at 28.6 percent. Alan Anderson scored a team-high 14 points in the 100-83 loss and there's very little reason to put much stock into this game on Toronto's end.
Amir Johnson has a rough night on offense | 04/06/2013 11:17 PM
News
Amir Johnson shot 1-of-7 from the field for two points with six boards, one assist, two steals and two blocks in 25 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
It was an uncharacteristic shooting line for Amir, who shoots 56 percent from the field this year. While the offense wasn't pretty, the rebounds and defense made this a worthwhile line for owners. He should be owned in all stanndard leagues.
Rudy Gay (ankle) scores 26 points in win | 04/06/2013 12:17 AM
News
Rudy Gay played despite an ankle injury and scored 26 points on 12-of-23 shooting (including a three) with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in Friday's win over the Wolves.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Rudy is doing a good job of holding things together despite lingering injuries and owners can only hope he keeps it up. DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points with not much else and Kyle Lowry went for 11 points and seven assists in the win.
Raptors calling plays for Jonas Valanciunas | 04/05/2013 9:44 AM
News
The Raptors are now calling specific plays for Jonas Valanciunas.
National Post

Impact
Dwane Casey admitted that earlier in the season calling a play for Valanciunas wouldn't be an option, but now it's a different story. "We're calling quite a few more plays for him, and he's doing a good job of making shots," he said. Valanciunas is expected to play in summer league to work on his defense, and Valanciunas knows he needs to work on his post moves and building strength in the offseason. For now, fantasy owners should keep rolling him out there as he's playing big minutes and is coming off a monstrous double-double of 24 points, 10 boards, a steal and two blocks.
Rudy Gay limited Wednesday by sprained ankle | 04/04/2013 12:04 AM
News
Rudy Gay sprained his ankle during Wednesday's game, limiting him to six points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes.
Raptors.com

Impact
He was coming off a game with a season-high 34 points, raising hopes that his back injury was finally behind him, only to sprain his ankle vs. the Wizards. We're calling him questionable for Friday's road game in Minnesota, but we should know more after Thursday's practice.
Lowry posts fat line despite cold shooting | 04/03/2013 9:55 PM
News
Kyle Lowry hit just 2-of-8 shots in the Raptors' 88-78 win over the Wizards on Wednesday, but still piled up nine points, eight rebounds and 13 assists.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Lowry's strange fantasy season took a turn up tonight, though it would still be nice if the Raps looked to him to score more. He should be in all lineups. DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points with a steal and block in the win.
Valanciunas goes for 24 and 10 vs. Wizards | 04/03/2013 9:53 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas scored 24 points on 4-of-7 shooting (16-of-18 FTs) with 10 rebounds, one steal and two blocks in a whopping 41 minutes on Wednesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Wow. The local beat writers were clamoring for more JV during the year and so were we. For owners that held on through the dark days, he is paying off huge dividends at precisely the correct time.
Gay struggles in win over the Wizards | 04/03/2013 9:50 PM
News
Rudy Gay was quiet in Wednesday's game against the Wizards, scoring six points on 2-of-8 shooting with eight rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
We'll stay on the lookout for any back issues but chances are Gay will bounce back the next time out.
Fields (elbow) returns to action on Wednesday | 04/03/2013 9:49 PM
News
Landry Fields (elbow) returned to action on Wednesday, scoring three points with three rebounds in 17 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Fields has been a non-factor in fantasy leagues this season and there is no reason to believe that this will change.
Landry Fields expected to play on Wednesday | 04/03/2013 12:40 PM
News
Landry Fields' elbow checked out after Monday's follow-up appointment and he's expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Wizards.
Raptors Media Relations on Twitter

Impact
There was a concern that Fields could miss the remainder of the season after having issues with his surgically-repaired elbow, but it checked out just fine and Fields will dress on Wednesday.
Amir Johnson banged up right now for Raps | 04/03/2013 8:57 AM
News
Dwane Casey revealed that Amir Johnson is "banged up," and it's possible Johnson's minutes could be reduced the remainder of the season.
Toronto Star

Impact
Johnson has played 37 minutes or more in two of his last three games, but his playing time could go down considering the Raptors aren't playing for anything this year and Johnson isn't healthy. He's an absolute warrior so it's possible Johnson will keep playing through his health issues, but owners need to keep in mind he's far from 100 percent.
| 04/02/2013 2:30 AM
News
Quincy Acy returned to action on Monday April 1.

Rudy Gay drops 34 points in a loss Monday | 04/01/2013 9:55 PM
News
Rudy Gay was terrific in a losing effort on Monday, scoring a season-high 34 points with six boards, five assists, one steal, one block and four 3-pointers on 13-of-18 shooting vs. the Pistons.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He made all four free throws to make this an eight-cat line. Gay had a so-so March, shooting just 43.4 percent from the field, so it was nice to see him get hot to start his April. He looks be over his back injury and should be starting in all formats.
Jonas Valanciunas scores 17, blocks five | 04/01/2013 9:49 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas shot 8-of-14 from the field for 17 points with six boards and five blocks in 37 minutes against the Pistons on Monday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
It took a little while, but JV is looking like a legitimate NBA center. He showed some nice polish around the hoop and he's being aggressive on defense, which fantasy owners will appreciate. Valanciunas should be owned in all leagues right now and hopefully he doesn't drop off like he's done so many times this year.
Landry Fields (elbow) won't play on Monday | 04/01/2013 5:23 PM
News
Landry Fields will not play on Monday as he seeks follow-up care on his surgically-repaired elbow.
Raptors on Twitter

Impact
It sounds like Fields is having some discomfort, as he's headed to California for a checkup with specialist. He hasn't been returning fantasy value with Rudy Gay healthy anyway, so this shouldn't impact active fantasy lineups.
Jonas Valanciunas' confidence is rising high | 04/01/2013 9:51 AM
News
Jonas Valanciunas' confidence is rising with every game.
Toronto Sun

Impact
"I'm getting much more confident," he said. "coach has started to trust me." Big V has a really bright future, and his play in March is an illustration of what he's capable of doing. In just 27 minutes per game, Valanciunas is averaging 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks on 62 percent shooting. It's worth noting he's had a double-double in two straight games and hasn't scored under 10 points since March 15.
Valanciunas posts 18 & 10 in loss to Wizards | 03/31/2013 9:13 PM
News
Jonas Valanciunas notched his second straight double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in Sunday's lopsided loss in Washington.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
JV now has eight consecutive games with 10+ points, and in the past two weeks he's making a ridiculous 72.5 percent of his FGs and 88.9 percent of his FTs. Throw in 8.5 boards and 1.2 blocks, and you're looking at a top-40 option in eight- and nine-cat leagues.
Sebastian Telfair returns to action on Sunday | 03/31/2013 9:11 PM
News
Sebastian Telfair (knee) returned from a four-game absence with 10 points on Sunday, hitting two 3-pointers and handing out three assists in 16 minutes.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He even knocked down a few 3-pointers, but he's only averaging 13 minutes in eight games with Toronto and remains an unlikely source of value while Kyle Lowry is playing.
Kyle Lowry gets some traction vs. Wizards | 03/31/2013 9:08 PM
News
Kyle Lowry bounced back after two disastrous games, scoring 15 points with three 3-pointers, three rebounds, seven assists and one block in Sunday's loss the Wizards.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Lowry is making 38.5 percent of his 7.8 shots per game in March (John Wall basically dared him to shoot jumpers tonight) and the result has been a lousy 8.6 points per game. All is not well for his fantasy owners, but at least he's been adding 1.1 triples, 5.4 boards, 6.3 assists and 1.7 steals.
Lowry back to his strange role for the Raps | 03/29/2013 11:46 PM
News
Kyle Lowry scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting with two rebounds, 11 assists and two steals in the Raptors' win over the Pistons on Friday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
We didn't hear anything about Lowry's sore knee tonight, and owners can continue using him as they normally would.
