NewsDamien Brunner is excelling on the third line with fellow rookies Joakim Andersson and Gustav Nyquist.
ImpactBrunner has four goals and seven points in nine playoff games to lead all first year players. Brunner is not actually considered a rookie because of his age but it is his first season in the NHL after a very good career in Europe. He played a lot of the regular season with Henrik Zetterberg but his play in the playoffs has been excellent as a third line player. "I really don't think (Brunner) has a clue what's going on," Jimmy Howard said with a chuckle. "I don't think he understands the realm of things and what can possibly happen as the playoffs unfold. He's in a good mood every single game. We got a lot of guys with a lot of energy, and you can just see the excitement on their faces."

ImpactBrunner had 10 goals in his first 19 games but has not scored in his last 13. He was credited with a goal on Monday but it was taken away from him as he did not tip in the puck. Brunner played in the Swiss League in which the longest trip was a three hour bus ride and not like the lengthy road trips in the NHL, especially playing in the Western Conference. "I'm definitely not used to it, but there's not much thinking about it," said Brunner. "You have to get used to it pretty fast. In Canada (last week) I felt worse than I do now. I have the energy back and I feel good to go on." Next year may be a lot easier as the schedule will not be compressed and Detroit will move into the Eastern Conference.

NewsDamien Brunner is riding a four-game point streak.
ImpactBrunner got off to a slow start, but the 26-year-old rookie seems to be settling in nicely with the Detroit Red Wings. The lockout probably worked to his advantage because it gave him a chance to play alongside Henrik Zetterberg in Switzerland before he made the leap to the NHL. "Playing with a player like Hank, it makes it easier," Brunner said.

NewsDamien Brunner is tied for fourth place in the NHL with 15 shots in just three games.
ImpactIt helps that Brunner is playing alongside Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. Zetterberg played on a line with Brunner with Switzerland's Zug during the lockout. Brunner excelled during the work stoppage and might get a chance to play on Detroit's top line with Zetterberg. With that in mind, he's a nice guy to grab late in standard fantasy drafts.
Brunner to start with Zetterberg and Datsyuk | 01/10/2013 9:06 PM
NewsThe success that Damien Brunner has enjoyed during the lockout in Switzerland has earned him the attention of Detroit coach Mike Babcock.

"They've been playing (in Europe) and they're in shape," Babcock said referring to Datsyuk and Zetterberg. "They play good together. Last year they started out slow, never got going." Brunner displayed chemistry with Zetterberg during their time with Zug in the Swiss League and it will be very interesting to see how he transitions to the NHL. Babcock said that the wingers could rotate on his top two lines, but Brunner stands an excellent chance of making his first year in North America a memorable one and he has great potential as a sleeper.
