It's going to be tough sledding for Duncan on offense with Memphis ranking first in the NBA in field goal percentage allowed in the paint. Obviously, if the Spurs are going to shoot 14-of-29 from downtown against an outstanding D like Memphis', it really isn't going to matter how Duncan performs on offense. The Spurs will host Game 2 on Tuesday.

Tim Duncan does not expect the Western Conference Finals to be "pretty" with the Spurs going into a best-of-seven slugfest against the Grizzlies.
"It's not going to be pretty," he said. "Sorry. It's just not going to be. It's going to be two teams trying to impose wills on each other. It's going to be a rough one. It's a fantastic quote from one of the game's more candid players, but this is also the same guy who famously flipped off an onlooker who was filming him leaving a CVS last season. All five Spurs starters were in double figures, but defense was the story for the Spurs. They held the Warriors to just 38.8 percent shooting, including 4-of-16 from downtown. Duncan didn't play too much down the stretch tonight, but Gregg Popovich said after the game that it was his decision to keep TD on the bench. Duncan will be ready to go for Sunday and he'll have his hands full against the formidable Memphis big men.

The Spurs lost the rebounding battle tonight, but shooting 50.6 percent from the field was the difference. San Antonio will look to take a commanding 3-1 lead on Sunday.

Duncan left Monday's Game 1 thriller early and did return briefly in double overtime -- but ended up playing "just" 34 of a possible 58 minutes. Unlike Luol Deng, he's dealing with a common flu bug. Duncan should be more than well enough to start in Game 2 against the Warriors.

Duncan should be better for Game 2 on Wednesday.

He hasn't been very successful against the Lakers this season, so the sub-par line is nothing new. In his three games vs. the Lakers this season, Duncan averaged 16.3 points and 8.7 boards on 44.4 percent shooting. Duncan may have to exert more energy on defense with the Lakers attempting to pound the ball inside and he'll have a positive impact in almost every game even if the stat sheet disagrees.

Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard are expected to play on Wednesday against the Wolves, and Manu Ginobili has a chance to play, as well.
This could all change in a moment's notice and there could be some wonky workloads, but this is a small bonus considering the Spurs don't have any playoff seeding to play for. Check back in periodically to see if Pop changes his mind.

Owners of all Spurs' players have to know things like this are going to happen. But with Duncan, it's expected. The Spurs play the Thunder on a Thursday TNT game, so coach Gregg Popovich was simply trying to keep the Big Fundamental fresh. He should play something closer to 30 minutes in that one.

"Yeah," Duncan said when asked directly if he'd have to work on Popovich to convince him to play on Monday. The Spurs are coming off of a last-second loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday, and with the Spurs playing another back-to-back set against the Magic and Thunder on Wednesday and Thursday, Duncan sitting on Monday wouldn't be a huge surprise. Boris Diaw is a candidate to start in place of Duncan if he sits, but Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard would be asked to carry the load.

"It's a lot of different stuff, but honestly I just feel healthy right now." Duncan said. "I feel like I have my legs underneath me for the first time in a while. My knee pain is way down, and I just feel good on the floor." Duncan is averaging 17.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks on 50.5 percent shooting, his best numbers since the 2009-10 season.

For all of the jibber jabber about Duncan slowing down we've yet to see any major downtime from him and otherwise he has been a beast. It's anybody's guess when the next DNP will strike, and owners would be wise to subtract anywhere from a half-game to a full game off his weekly schedule when making assessments. Kawhi Leonard scored 21 points with a very full line in the win.

Tim Duncan is feeling more confident in his jump shot after missing time earlier this season with knee and ankle injuries.
"My jump shot's coming back," he said. "It doesn't feel great, but it's going in a little bit. I'll take it. Everything else feels really good." Gregg Popovich said Duncan has his "rhythm back," and it shows. Duncan has been ridiculous in March, averaging 20.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.9 blocks while shooting 58 percent.

Duncan is absolutely killing it lately and the only thing that can slow him down is a random Gregg Popovich benching for rest. That's always going to be a risk associated with owning Duncan from here on in, but he's playing well enough to overcome the occasional missed game. It also helps that the Spurs don't have a back-to-back set of games until Sunday March 31 and Monday April 1.

The Spurs outlasted the Cavaliers on Saturday, thanks largely to Tim Duncan's game-high 30 points on 13-of-19 shooting, with 12 rebounds, four assists and five blocks.
Brilliant games like this make the prospect of random DNPs much easier to swallow. It's also encouraging that San Antonio doesn't play another back-to-back set until early April, which should keep Timmy rested even as the Thunder push the Spurs for the top seed in the West (currently two games back). On a per-game basis, the Spurs' 36-year-old big man has been a top-10 value in both eight- and nine-cat leagues.

He rested the second half of a back-to-back set on Tuesday and needless to say he looked like an All-Star in the win. It was just the second time since January 12 that he played at least 36 minutes. The Spurs have three more back-to-back sets on the season with their next one coming up on March 31. Coach Pop could still sit Duncan even in a game that isn't in a back-to-back set, too.

It's also conceivable (if doubtful) that Tony Parker's absence could make Pop think twice before benching Duncan.

Tim Duncan had a double-double against the Suns on Wednesday with 19 point and 11 boards, adding one steal and one block in 35 minutes.
He became the 11th player in NBA history with 20,000 points and 13,000 rebounds in a losing effort and it was surprising to see him log 35 minutes. The Spurs won't have a back-to-back set until March 11 vs. Oklahoma City and March 12 at Minnesota, so he might not get a surprising DNP for a while. Although, you'll never know with Pop and Duncan could sit out at any time. The good news is the Spurs have just four back-to-back sets in March and April.

He had a big 19-point, 13-board game on Friday in a great matchup against the Warriors, but Marcin Gortat did a fair job defending the Big Fundamental today. Duncan did play 28 minutes in the win and Gregg Popovich said that he's going to keep Duncan's minutes in the mid-20s. Plan accordingly.

Tim Duncan played 16 minutes in a win over the Clippers on Thursday, scoring nine points and five boards on 4-of-8 shooting.
In an in-game interview, coach Gregg Popovich said that he would keep Duncan's minutes in the "mid-20s" during the season, but this game was over before the fourth quarter and the Spurs led from wire to wire. The Big Fundamental played 29.7 minutes per game before tonight, so his owners should expect his per-game averages to take a dip on top of the surprise DNPs.

Tim Duncan admitted that he is "very out of rhythm with a lot of things" after taking time off due to injuries.
"It will take however long it takes," he said. Duncan had just nine points on Wednesday, but he did pull down 14 rebounds to go along with two steals and four blocks in only 28 minutes, so it's not all bad for his fantasy owners at all. Duncan will be subject to random DNP-CD's down the stretch, but as long as he's playing, owners have to roll him out there.

He played on Wednesday before the All-Star break, Sunday's All-Star Game, as well as tonight's game, meaning he's played in three straight. And knowing Gregg Popovich, that might be enough to warrant a surprise DNP for Duncan and his bum knee on Thursday against the Clippers. The fact it's a TNT game against Chris Paul and Blake Griffin should mean Duncan's a lock to play, but we've been down that road before with Popovich, when he famously sent his stars home against the Heat in November. Chances are Duncan will be in the starting lineup Thursday, but you never know. And if Duncan does play Thursday, he'll be very iffy for Friday night at Golden State. Yes, this is probably your sign to sell high.

It looked really bad when Wizards G Martell Webster rolled into Duncan's legs from behind. But he escaped with knee/ankle sprains and ended up missing just four games. "I was in a lot of pain and had no concept of time frame," Duncan said Saturday. "I didn't know how long I'd be out or how I'd feel the next day. "I got lucky, so I'm here."

He made all four of his free throws and shot 10-of-17 from the field. Duncan had just one block in the win on Monday, which is well below his January average of 3.8. While Gregg Popovich is going to rest Duncan here and there, The Big Fundamental continues to produce monster numbers to make those DNPs a lot easier to swallow.
