Ainge expecting improvement from Rondo | 06/12/2013 9:00 AM
NewsDanny Ainge is expecting to see an improved Rajon Rondo (knee surgery) when he returns next season.
ImpactI think Rondo is a smart guy, and he got to see the strengths and weaknesses of our team and the players," said Ainge. "I think he actually started to see it even before he was out, but when you're out, you can see things in your team and your teammates that maybe you didn't see before." Ainge also said that Rondo "doesn't listen to everything you say, but he's got his own ideas of what he can do to get better, as well." Ainge concluded with "Listen, I think Rajon has matured every year. He has gotten better." Rondo wants to return faster than Adrian Peterson, bu that seems like a lofty goal. There is no firm timetable for his return.
Report: Rondo could be dangled in trade talks | 05/13/2013 8:59 AM
NewsRajon Rondo could be dangled in trade talks "in case a deal makes sense," according to the Boston Herald.
ImpactWe've heard Rondo could be traded in the "right deal" for a while now, but Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook or someone of that nature is not walking through the door. The C's will only move Rondo if it's a trade that unquestionably makes the team better, and it's not expected that scenario will be available to Boston. The Boston Herald writes this "nearly annual look into Rondo's trade value has to eventually reach a limit," but we wouldn't expect it to be during the offseason. The Celtics don't even have a true backup in place at point guard.
Rajon Rondo expected to be ready for camp | 05/10/2013 8:57 AM
NewsDanny Ainge reiterated that Rajon Rondo (torn ACL) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next season.
Ben Rohrbach on Twitter
ImpactRondo underwent surgery in mid-February, so if he's able to be ready at the start of training camp, it will be a pretty speedy recovery for the Celtics starting point guard. Rondo recently said he's still not walking or jumping in his rehab yet, so it sounds like the bulk of the work to be done in his rehab will be done during the summer months. We'll get multiple updates on his progress between now and then, but so far, so good.
Rajon Rondo still not walking or jumping yet | 04/29/2013 9:40 AM
NewsRajon Rondo (torn ACL) said he's still not walking or jumping in his rehab yet.
Impact"I can't jump, I can't walk, so right now I don't know if I'm on schedule," said Rondo. "I don't know where I am, because this is the first time I've had ACL surgery." Rondo is expected to be ready for training camp next season, but this summer will be critical in achieving that goal.
Rondo thought he could play through knee pain | 04/11/2013 3:09 PM
NewsRajon Rondo said he didn't hear a "pop" when he tore his ACL and thought he could play through the injury this season.
ImpactRondo said he felt something wasn't right in the knee during his pregame ritual and then went to the hospital to get tests. Incredibly, Rondo said he first heard news of his ACL tear on the radio. "I was like, 'We just got the results, there's no way possible,' " Rondo told ESPN of hearing the reports of the injury on the way back from the hospital. Rondo said he's undergoing an "intense" rehab process and is basically re-learning how to use his leg. He's expected to be ready for training camp next season.
Rajon Rondo warms up with Celtics Wednesday | 04/03/2013 6:33 PM
NewsRajon Rondo (torn ACL) took part in warmups with the Celtics on Wednesday wearing a brace on his right knee.
Paul Flannery on Twitter
ImpactRondo underwent surgery on the knee in mid-February. The fact that he was on the court shooting free throws is definitely a good sign but it's far too early to determine anything about where Rondo is in his rehab. The Celtics expect him to be ready for training camp this season.
Ainge sees a Rondo/Bradley backcourt | 03/19/2013 5:16 PM
NewsCeltics GM Danny Ainge sees Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley as the backcourt of his future.
ImpactThere's been some chatter that Bradley is better as the point guard, not playing off the ball as he does when Rondo is healthy. Ainge isn't buying that. "I think that combination last year proved to be spectacular, they just didn't get a chance to get together much this year, so it's a little bit unfair," Ainge said. ESPN Boston points out that when Rondo and Bradley were on the floor at the same time last year, the Celtics had a plus 14.7 point differential.
Rajon Rondo rehabbing, to return to BOS soon | 03/13/2013 8:15 AM
NewsRajon Rondo has been rehabbing his surgically-repaired knee twice per day and should return to Boston in a couple of weeks.
Steve Bulpett on Twitter
ImpactThis is nothing more than an update on Rondo, who is out for the season. The team expects him to be ready for the start of training camp next season.
Report: Celtics tell Rondo he won't be moved | 02/20/2013 1:09 PM
NewsRajon Rondo's agent Billy Duffy has been assured by Danny Ainge that Rajon Rondo will not be traded before Thursday's deadline.
Sam Amick on Twitter
ImpactWell, that was fun while it lasted. While deals can still happen after a player has been assured he won't be moved, it would be a monumental surprise to see Rondo moved. It's also probable teams aren't interested in giving up a ton of value for Rondo, who won't contribute this season.
Report: Celtics exploring market for Rondo | 02/20/2013 9:16 AM
NewsSources told ESPN's Chris Broussard that the Celtics would be "willing to trade" Rajon Rondo in the "right deal."
Chris Broussard on Twitter
ImpactWe can't imagine the Celtics getting the "right deal" with Rondo out for the season with a torn ACL, and we're not expecting Danny Ainge to sell on Rondo's stock when its at a low point.
Rajon Rondo undergoes successful ACL surgery | 02/13/2013 1:16 PM
NewsRajon Rondo underwent successful ACL surgery on Tuesday.
Baxter Holmes on Twitter
ImpactRondo's surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Florida, and the initial expectation is that Rondo will be ready to play by training camp. There is a long road between now and training camp, so that timetable is anything but certain to hold true.
Rajon Rondo expected to be out six months | 02/08/2013 9:59 AM
NewsRajon Rondo, who is set to undergo ACL surgery next week, is only expected to be out for six months and could be ready for the start of the 2013-14 season.
ImpactRondo has a partial tear of his ACL rather than a full tear, which is great news for his short and long-term outlook. "It's still too early to tell for sure," his agent Bill Duffy told CSNNE.com. "But we are very optimistic about his return now that we know his injury is only a partial tear and not a full tear."
Rajon Rondo to get second opinion on knee | 01/30/2013 9:38 AM
NewsRajon Rondo will get a second opinion on his right knee before undergoing ACL surgery.
ImpactThe esteemed Dr. James Andrews is the favorite to give a second opinion, but it's possible another doctor is called. A second opinion isn't expected for "at least" four or five days with the amount of swelling still in Rondo's knee, and Rondo is also expected to meet with at least a couple of other athletes who have torn their ACL's previously.
Celts hope Rondo may return for training camp | 01/28/2013 7:05 PM
NewsCeltics GM Danny Ainge expects Rajon Rondo (ACL surgery) to return in time for training camp in October.
Impact"Rajon will get surgery in 10 to 14 days, when the swelling is right, and we anticipate that he'll back and as good as ever in training camp," Ainge said. We probably won't have any more clarity until the surgery is over and his rehab is underway, but this at least gives us some hope that he'll be ready for the season opener.
Rajon Rondo to have surgery in 10-14 days | 01/28/2013 10:04 AM
NewsRajon Rondo will have ACL surgery in 10-14 days, sources told Sports Illustrated.
Chris Mannix on Twitter
ImpactThe doctors want the swelling in Rondo's knee to go down before the operation, a standard move for operations of this nature. It's too early to speculate on Rondo's timetable to return, but he'll face a serious challenge to be ready for opening night of the 2013-14 season.
Confirmed: Rajon Rondo has a torn ACL | 01/27/2013 3:46 PM
NewsAn MRI revealed that Rajon Rondo has suffered a torn right ACL and he will miss the rest of the season.
Gary Washburn on Twitter
ImpactThis is an unbelievable blow to the Celtics and their entire team's identity is going to change with this injury. Rondo was leading the league in assists and played 37.4 minutes per game, so there are numerous options to solve this gaping hole left on the Celtics. Avery Bradley projects as the main beneficiary and should be owned in all leagues while Courtney Lee also makes for a strong add in all leagues. Jason Terry should also see more minutes and is also worth owning in standard leagues. Leandro Barbosa could also see an uptick in minutes and is worth a look.
Report: Rajon Rondo may have torn ACL | 01/27/2013 3:08 PM
NewsA Celtics source says Rajon Rondo may have suffered a torn ACL, according to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.
Mark Murphy on Twitter
ImpactUh oh. He was diagnosed with a hyperextended knee at the game by the medical staff, but the MRI reportedly indicated he suffered a ligament tear. Rondo would miss the rest of the season with this injury, but his owners will obviously have to hang in there until this report is confirmed by the team. Avery Bradley will take over at point guard and he's a must-own player in all leagues since he can provide threes and steals to go with points and assists. Courtney Lee also gets a nice boost and is worth owning in standard leagues. Jason Terry has been miserable lately, but he's worth a look for triple-needed owners.
Rajon Rondo won't play Sunday vs. Heat | 01/27/2013 1:57 PM
NewsRajon Rondo has a hyperextended right knee and won't play Sunday against the Heat.
Celtics on Twitter
ImpactRondo apparently injured the knee Friday against the Hawks. He went through the walk-through with the Celtics Sunday but was scratched at the last minute. He was sent to the hospital to get an MRI and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Courtney Lee. Owners will want to get him out of their lineups immediately and we'll update you when we know more.
Rajon Rondo logs 27th triple-double of career | 01/25/2013 12:33 AM
NewsRajon Rondo logged his fourth triple-double of the season with 23 points, 10 boards and 11 assists in Thursday's loss to the Knicks.
ImpactHe shot 10-of-19 from the field and was very aggressive in attacking the basket with 11 of his attempts coming from within four feet. Despite his shots per game on the season increasing from last year, his shots at the rim have dropped. Rondo looks to be out of his slump that was bothering him earlier this month and the buy-low window is closing fast.
Rajon Rondo posts sweet & sour line vs. DET | 01/20/2013 11:25 PM
NewsRajon Rondo had eight points, nine rebounds and 15 assists on Sunday, but he also shot 4-of-16 from the field with nine turnovers.
ImpactThe Celtics fell behind by double-digit points in the first quarter and could never get over the hump. Rondo's errant shots and passes didn't help matters, but the TOs are a given and his jump shot has actually been better this year -- with teams going under pick-and-rolls he's attempting more shots from 16-23 feet than ever before, and he's knocking them down at a career-best 49 percent clip.
Rajon Rondo scores 30 points on Friday | 01/19/2013 1:03 AM
NewsRajon Rondo shot 12-of-21 from the field and 6-of-9 from the line for 30 points to go with two rebounds, seven assists and two steals against the Bulls on Friday.
ImpactRondo took a bad fall at the end of the game and took a knee to his head, but it sounds like he will be fine. His 30 points were a season high and he was aggressive with 11 of his field goal attempts coming from within five feet.
Rajon Rondo logs 26th triple-double of career | 01/15/2013 12:02 AM
NewsRajon Rondo had the 26th triple-double of his career on Monday with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists in a 100-89 win over the Bobcats.
ImpactHe shot 8-of-11 from the field and it was the first time he shot over 45 percent in his last four games. Rondo also snapped a two-game, single-digit assist output in the win. There might have been a buy-low window before tonight, but that is going to close quickly. Paul Pierce also had a team-high 19 points with four rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers.
Rondo still can't crack double-digit assists | 01/12/2013 12:17 AM
NewsRajon Rondo only had eight assists to go with 12 points, five boards and two steals in 33 minutes during Friday's 103-91 win over the Rockets.
ImpactHe hasn't responded very nicely from his one-game suspension. In those two games, Rondo shot 37.5 percent on 24 attempts and both games had just eight assists. He should be viewed as a buy-low player. On the other hand, Paul Pierce was terrific, shooting 8-of-14 from the field for 23 points with six rebounds, three assists, one steal and three 3-pointers.
Rondo returns from suspension on Weds. | 01/10/2013 12:28 AM
NewsRajon Rondo returned from his one-game suspension on Wednesday, scoring eight points with eight assists and four turnovers in 31 minutes.
ImpactHe's off to a slow 2013 with an average of just 8.8 assists per game which is down from his league-high average of 11.3. Rondo also has just 1.0 steals per game in his last six games, so this might be the low point for his value all season.
Rondo suspended Monday for bumping ref | 01/07/2013 5:31 PM
NewsRajon Rondo has been suspended for Monday's game for "making contact with an official and failure to cooperate with a league investigation."
Jeff Zillgitt on Twitter
ImpactThe lack of cooperation part is a bit mystifying, but Rondo will miss one game for bumping a ref in Saturday's game (in which he posted a triple-double). The Celtics play just three games this season, which bumps Rondo down to two games and forces owners to weigh their options closely for weekly lineups. Jason Terry gets a short-term boost in his absence.
Rajon Rondo notches 25th triple-double | 01/05/2013 11:26 PM
NewsRajon Rondo posted his 25th career triple-double on Saturday with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.
ImpactThe line speaks for itself, but Rondo played with rarified energy to help Boston storm back from a double-digit deficit and win their second straight game, pulling them within one game of .500 at 16-17.
Rondo (hip) coming back into form | 01/05/2013 5:18 AM
NewsRajon Rondo scored 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting (no threes) with five rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and one block in the Celtics' 94-75 blowout win over the Pacers on Friday.
ImpactRondo has been struggling with a hip injury and his numbers have been down, so tonight's result is good news that he's getting back to normal. Paul Pierce added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block, and two 3-pointers in the win.
Rajon Rondo feeling good after Wednesday | 01/03/2013 8:35 AM
NewsRajon Rondo (hip) confirmed that he made it out of Wednesday's game without further injury.
ImpactDoc Rivers thought Rondo was "fine" from a health standpoint, a sentiment with which Rondo agreed. He had 11 points (4-of-11 shooting) to pair with 10 assists on Wednesday.
Rondo double-doubles on Wednesday vs. MEM | 01/03/2013 1:51 AM
NewsRajon Rondo shot 4-of-11 from the field for 11 points with two rebounds and 10 assists in 40 minutes against the Grizzlies on Wednesday.
ImpactHe's shot just 5-of-17 in his two games back from his thigh injury and he hasn't been as aggressive with the ball. He was very questionable for today's game with a hip injury and Rondo also had an ankle injury cost him a game back on November 15. Despite being banged up, he's still leading the league in assists by a wide margin and should be started in all lineups.
Rajon Rondo will play Wednesday vs. Griz | 01/02/2013 7:31 PM
NewsRajon Rondo (hip) will play Wednesday against the Grizzlies.
Sean Grande on Twitter
ImpactRondo warmed up before the game with his hip heavily wrapped but moved pretty well, according to the beat writers. Rondo will start alongside the returning Avery Bradley and fantasy owners will want to get Rondo back into their starting lineups.
Rajon Rondo held out of Tuesday's practice | 01/01/2013 3:31 PM
NewsRajon Rondo (hip) will not practice Tuesday and is questionable to play in Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.
Chris Forsberg on Twitter
ImpactRondo got kneed on his hip bone by Matt Barnes last Thursday. He sat out Saturday's loss in Golden State and then managed just two points against the Kings on Sunday. He admitted to getting beaten down the court by bigs because he wasn't running well. When asked if he'll play Wednesday, Rondo said, "I hope so." We'll know more after the morning shootaround.
