Serge Ibaka admits his confidence waning | 05/13/2013 8:06 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka admitted that his confidence is "waning."
Impact"Yeah," Ibaka said when asked if his confidence was an issue. "It's normal, man. It's normal. A little bit. Of course, that happens to everybody." Ibaka has been missing in action since the second round began, and the Thunder need him to step up alongside Kevin Durant to get back into the series against Memphis.
Serge misses bunny in loss to Houston | 04/30/2013 12:55 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka missed a wide-open shot at point-blank range in the last second on Monday's loss to the Rockets, finishing with eight points, five boards, two assists and three blocks.
ImpactOn the last play of the game, Reggie Jackson (18 points, four boards, three assists, two steals and two 3-pointers) missed a shot from five feet and the ball ended up in Serge's hands with nobody around him, but his shot didn't have enough on it since he short-armed it. Ibaka was outstanding on shots at the rim this year, making 77.4 percent of his attempts, so the miss was a mild shock. He'll look to atone from the miss on Wednesday in Game 5.
Serge Ibaka shines in Game 1 win over HOU | 04/22/2013 12:16 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had 17 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and a 3-pointer on 7-of-11 shooting in Sunday's easy Game 1 win over the Rockets.
ImpactIbaka has added the 3-point shot to his arsenal, and his three blocks tonight were all highlight reel worthy.
Serge Ibaka scores 17 points with seven RBs | 04/12/2013 1:21 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka shot 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points with seven boards, one steal, three blocks and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes against the Warriors on Thursday.
ImpactWhile he's known mostly for leading the league in blocks, Ibaka's offense has been outstanding all year. He's shooting 57 percent from the field thanks largely due to the improvements in his jumper. This year, he's shooting 48 percent on jumpers compared to just 39 percent last year. He'll be flirting with first-round value in drafts next season.
Serge Ibaka adds five more blocks Tuesday | 04/10/2013 1:07 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka blocked five shots to go with 16 points and eight boards on 8-of-14 shooting in Tuesday's 90-80 win over the Jazz.
ImpactHe's racking up the blocks these days and averaged 4.4 per game over his previous five. Ibaka leads the league in blocks this year and he should be able to retain the lead. His offensive improvement has helped him put up first-round value in standard leagues.
Serge Ibaka is perfect on Sunday in loss | 04/07/2013 4:15 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka made all six of his field goal attempts in Sunday's loss to the Knicks, scoring 13 points with six boards, five blocks and one 3-pointer.
ImpactHe raised his season field goal percent to 57.2 and also increased his lead in blocks per game to 3.08, which is ahead of Larry Sanders' 2.90. Ibaka is holding first-round value on the season in standard leagues and his durability should make him a fantasy stud for a long time.
Serge Ibaka double-doubles on Thursday | 04/05/2013 12:45 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka double-doubled in 34 minutes on Thursday with 11 points and 11 boards against the Spurs.
ImpactHe added three blocks and maintained his lead for blocks per game over Larry Sanders. Ibaka's 57 percent shooting this season has put him just outside of first-round value and it's nice to see Scott Brooks keep him in the lineup just about all year long.
Serge Ibaka blocks season-high eight shots | 03/30/2013 11:17 PM
NewsThe Thunder won Saturday's game with a big lift from Serge Ibaka, who finished with 16 points (7-of-8 FGs), seven rebounds, and a season-high eight blocks.
ImpactIbaka helped lock up the Bucks during a game-ending 22-5 run that gave OKC a comeback road win against a playoff-hungry team. He has also overtaken Larry Sanders for the league lead in blocks per game, and he helped his case immensely tonight as Sanders finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and not a single blocked shot.
Serge Ibaka blocks four shots in easy win | 03/28/2013 12:28 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had seven points, seven rebounds, a steal and four blocks in Wednesday's easy win over the Wizards.
ImpactHis scoring and rebounding have dropped off lately, but the blocks are still rolling in. Russell Westbrook added 21 points, four boards, four assists and a 3-pointer, and Kevin Durant had 20 points and just two turnovers in the cake walk.
Serge Ibaka quiet again in Thunder loss | 03/21/2013 12:57 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had just two points, six rebounds, a steal and two blocks in 22 minutes of Wednesday's overtime loss to the Grizzlies.
ImpactIbaka was playing with a cut over his eye that required stitches and it was bleeding during the game. He played through it, but has really cooled off over his last two games. The Thunder get the struggling Magic on Friday, and there's no reason to think Ibaka won't bounce back. Ironically, one of the biggest problems the Thunder have is utilizing a big man to get them easy buckets, but the capable Ibaka looks like the fifth scoring option for Scott Brooks. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined to make just 18-of-58 shots tonight, which is another reason the Thunder lost.
Serge Ibaka will play Wednesday night vs. MEM | 03/20/2013 6:39 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka (eye) will be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.
Darnell Mayberry on Twitter
ImpactIbaka was hit in the head by an accidental elbow from teammate Reggie Jackson on Tuesday. The hit left Ibaka on the floor and bloodied but the injury has healed enough for him to play. Owners who were concerned Ibaka would sit Wednesday will want to get him back into their lineups. Ibaka has been playing well of late but will have to contend with Memphis' beastly frontcourt duo of Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol on Wednesday.
Serge Ibaka leaves after elbow to head | 03/19/2013 11:41 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka caught an inadvertent elbow to the head from teammate Reggie Jackson on Tuesday that left him on the floor and bloodied.
ImpactHe finished with six points, two rebounds, a steal and three blocks in 24 minutes, left the court under his own power and supposedly could have returned to the game. We're guessing he's fine and will be ready for Wednesday's game at Memphis, but owners will want to check back just to be sure. Ibaka had scored in double figures in four straight games and double-doubled in two of them, so fantasy owners have to hope he plays and returns to form against Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
Serge Ibaka racks up 18 & 16 double-double | 03/17/2013 10:25 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka racked up his 13th double-double of the season vs. Dallas, scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
ImpactIbaka made 7-of-11 FGs and he blocked three shots, as usual, which helps take the sting out of his 3-of-8 FT shooting. The Thunder finish the regular season with a mediocre weekly schedule of 4-3-3-3-2.
Serge Ibaka scores 20 points with six boards | 03/15/2013 11:42 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka shot 8-of-10 from the field for 20 points with six rebounds, one assist and three blocks against the Magic on Friday.
ImpactIt was his first 20-point game since January 7, but his offense has been efficient in his previous 10 games, shooting 64.4 percent from the field. Ibaka is trailing only Larry Sanders for the blocks lead and he's flirting with first-round value this year.
Serge Ibaka quiet in easy win over Jazz | 03/14/2013 12:32 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka hit 4-of-6 shots for 10 points, three rebounds and one block in Wednesday's easy win over the Jazz.
ImpactHe had 13 points, 16 boards and three blocks on Monday, but didn't need to do much in tonight's lopsided win. Owners in weekly head-to-head leagues will have some tough decisions to make with Ibaka playing three games per week in three of his next four, but his shot blocking alone will mean he should remain in most lineups.
Ibaka goes for 13 and 16 in loss to Spurs | 03/11/2013 11:24 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka went for 13 and 16 with three blocks in Monday's loss to the Spurs.
ImpactIbaka hit 4-of-8 shots and stood out on a somewhat down night for the Thunder stars, as Russell Westbrook hit just 11-of-27 shots and finished with 25 points, six rebounds and six assists, but both he and Kevin Durant (26 points, full line) combined for nine turnovers in the loss. If they're not tossing Kendrick Perkins and Derek Fisher on the court for a combined 47 minutes they probably win, which lets you know the Thunder are warming up for the playoffs.
Serge Ibaka goes for seven and seven Sunday | 03/10/2013 4:24 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka scored seven points with seven boards, two assists, two blocks and one 3-pointer in 26 minutes against the Celtics on Sunday.
ImpactIt's amazing how far Ibaka has come along and his positive impact on offense is undeniable. Ibaka sat in the corner for a wide-open 3-point make on a possession and he has blossomed into a two-way player. He'll be a fantasy stud for years to come.
Serge Ibaka has a so-so line vs. Bobcats | 03/08/2013 9:17 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka played just 24 minutes against the Bobcats on Friday, scoring 12 points with seven boards and two blocks on 5-of-8 shooting.
ImpactThe Bobcats are the best matchup for big men to produce big lines and he had a nice lineup considering he didn't even play in the fourth quarter. Ibaka is playing with a ferocity that is matched by few in the league and he'll be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.
Serge Ibaka brings the D against the Knicks | 03/07/2013 11:02 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka blocked five shots in Thursday's win against the Knicks, adding 12 points and nine boards in 40 minutes.
ImpactIt was one of the best defensive performances of any player all year and Ibaka altered tons of shots to go with those five blocks. He also shot 5-of-7 from the field and made both of his free throws to make it a five-category line for fantasy owners. He trails Larry Sanders for the blocking crown, but his improved offense makes him one of the best big men in fantasy hoops.
Ibaka plays well after avoiding suspension | 03/06/2013 1:51 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka celebrated his avoidance of a suspension for tagging Blake Griffin's groin on Sunday by dropping 13 points, six rebounds, two blocks and another 3-pointer on 6-of-8 shooting in Tuesday's win over the Lakers.
ImpactIbaka had hit a total of two 3-pointers entering the season, but has somehow dropped 15 of them this year, hitting nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc. The fact he avoided a suspension was a gift to his fantasy owners, courtesy of David Stern, and he'll play three more times this week before playing four times in each of the following two weeks. But it's not pretty after that, as the Thunder play just three games per week for the final full three weeks of the regular season, which could be a fantasy disaster in playoff leagues.
Report: Ibaka won't be suspended for low blow | 03/05/2013 3:41 PM
NewsA source tells SI.com that Serge Ibaka will be fined but not suspended for Sunday's low blow on Blake Griffin.
Chris Mannix on Twitter
ImpactLate in the game, Ibaka and Griffin were grappling for rebounding position as a shot was in the air. Ibaka inexplicably did a tomahawk chop directly to Griffin's family jewels. It certainly looked like it was intentional, although the NBA must have ruled that it was an inadvertent basketball motion. Ibaka will start Tuesday's TNT game against the Lakers.
Serge Ibaka scores 16, gets flagrant foul | 03/03/2013 7:45 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka scored 16 points in Sunday's win over the Clippers to go with three boards, one steal, two blocks and one 3-pointer on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
ImpactHe committed a flagrant foul, hitting Blake Griffin below the belt and the league will certainly have a look at the infraction. Ibaka could receive a suspension and it's something that will be monitored on Monday. It would be a big loss for OKC since Ibaka is playing very well and even shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc this year. Interestingly, that percentage is 2.74 times greater than Ricky Rubio's 19.8 percent from distance. Ibaka is a top-20 asset in standard leagues.
Serge Ibaka puts up a big line on Wednesday | 02/21/2013 3:14 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka shot 7-of-11 from the field for 16 points with seven boards and five blocks in 31 minutes against the Rockets on Wednesday.
ImpactHe snapped his 18-game streak with a block in his last game before the break and he started off his second half on the right foot with this gem. Ibaka might have a tough time overtaking Larry Sanders for the shot-blocking lead, but he'll be flirting with first-round value and has shown great durability in his NBA career.
Serge Ibaka has a quiet night in loss | 02/15/2013 1:02 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had just six points, six boards and no blocks in 35 minutes against the Heat on Thursday.
ImpactHe snapped an 18-game streak with at least one block and it was just his second game without a steal or block on the year. Ibaka has been relatively quiet over the past month and posted value just outside of the top 30 in eight-category leagues in the past month, so perhaps a buy-low offer at just a small discount could pay dividends.
Serge Ibaka blocks seven shots in loss | 02/13/2013 12:50 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had 10 points and just three rebounds, but tied a season high with seven blocks in Tuesday's loss to the Jazz.
ImpactIbaka is averaging 11.6 points, just 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.4 steals, 3.8 blocks and 0.6 3-pointers over his last five games. He's been hitting some threes this season, and while his lack of rebounds lately is annoying, they should be coming, as he's still averaging 8.0 per game on the season.
Serge Ibaka turns in a big line vs. GSW | 02/06/2013 11:52 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka played 32 minutes against the Warriors on Wednesday and had 15 points, nine boards, four assists, six blocks and one 3-pointer on 7-of-10 shooting.
ImpactIt was his second game in a row with a triple and Serge has blocked a whopping 4.2 shots per game in his last five. Scott Brooks hasn't limited him at all this year and his minutes have been right at 32 per game over the course of each month this season. Ibaka is shooting 56 percent from the field to go with his numerous blocks and he's providing top-15 value in standard leagues.
Serge Ibaka bounces back w/ double-double | 02/02/2013 11:29 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka got back on track vs. Cleveland, scoring 18 points with 12 rebounds, one steal and four blocks.
ImpactIbaka played only 30 minutes yet he managed to record his first double-double in over two weeks. He also has 14 blocks in the past three games, and owners can safely forget about Thursday's random dud (four points, one rebound).
Serge Ibaka scores four points, blocks six | 02/01/2013 12:05 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka scored just four points and one rebound in 26 minutes against the Grizzlies on Thursday to go with six blocks.
ImpactHe snapped a six-game streak of double-digit points and shot just 2-of-3 from the field. Ibaka's three attempts from the field were a season-low and he wasn't a part of the offense in the win. On the other hand, his blocks have surged over his last four games with 3.8 per game. There's nothing to worry about here.
Ibaka scores 10 points with four blocks | 01/27/2013 7:25 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka has 10 points, six boards, one steal and four blocks in 35 minutes against the Lakers.
ImpactHe took a vicious spill in the first quarter and left the game, but he came back and didn't seem to be bothered by it. Ibaka's blocks have been down with just 2.4 per game in January and he's fallen way behind Larry Sanders for the league lead.
Serge Ibaka leaves Sunday's game | 01/27/2013 5:10 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka took a hard fall in the first quarter of Sunday's game and went to the bench.
ImpactHe fell for a pump fake by Antawn Jamison from 3-point range and was up-ended on the play. Ibaka didn't go to the locker room or receive treatment, so he looks to be OK.
Serge Ibaka scores 17 points on Tuesday | 01/23/2013 2:21 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka scored 17 points with nine rebounds, three assists, one block and one 3-pointer against the Clippers on Tuesday.
ImpactHe set a season high with three assists and it was his first 3-pointer in almost two weeks. Ibaka hasn't topped more than two blocks in any of his last four games, so there might be a bit of a buy-low window here. He's over his chest contusion that cost him two games last week and he obviously should be in all lineups.
Ibaka is quiet in return on Wednesday | 01/17/2013 12:22 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka returned from his two-game absence and had five points, six rebounds, one assist and five blocks in 27 minutes on Wednesday.
ImpactHe didn't have much of an impact on offense, making just two of his five shots, but owners shouldn't have much to complain about with five blocks. A chest contusion isn't the type of injury that lingers, so he should be inserted into all lineups with confidence.
Serge Ibaka (chest) will play Wednesday | 01/16/2013 8:13 PM
NewsUpdating a previous item, Serge Ibaka (chest) will play against the Nuggets on Wednesday.
Jason Kosmicki on Twitter
ImpactHe's missed the last two games with a chest contusion and it'll be a welcomed sight for his owners. Ibaka didn't miss a game since the 2009-10 season before this injury and it's unlikely to linger. He should go back to producing first-round value in no time. Nick Collison and Kendrick Perkins lose value with Serge back in the lineup.
Serge Ibaka back in lineup for Thunder | 01/16/2013 7:35 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka is expected to play on Wednesday against the Nuggets after missing the last two games with a chest contusion.
Darnell Mayberry on Twitter
ImpactIf you started him in a weekly league and watched him sit on Monday, this is the news owners were hoping for.
Serge Ibaka game-time call on Wednesday | 01/16/2013 12:38 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka (chest) will be a game-time decision on Wednesday vs. the Nuggets.
John Rohde on Twitter
ImpactIbaka has missed two straight games with the chest injury, so it's a toss up as to whether or not he'll play. If he's forced to sit again, look for Nick Collison to start with Hasheem Thabeet also picking up a few extra minutes, as well.
Serge Ibaka (chest) will not play Monday | 01/14/2013 8:32 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka (chest contusion) will not play against the Suns on Monday.
John Rohde on Twitter
ImpactIt will be his second game missed with the injury and it must really be bothering him given his durability in the NBA. Ibaka should be considered questionable for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets. Nick Collison got the start on Sunday, but he didn't do much with Hasheem Thabeet also getting some of Ibaka's 32.2 minutes.
Serge Ibaka (chest) uncertain to play Monday | 01/14/2013 9:46 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka (chest) is uncertain to play on Monday vs. the Suns.
ImpactIbaka's status will be updated on Monday, so owners will have to check back for an update after he sat out on Sunday. If Ibaka is forced to sit again, Nick Collison would start in his place. Collison had eight points and three rebounds in 21.5 minutes on Sunday.
Serge Ibaka (chest) will not play vs. Blazers | 01/13/2013 8:42 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka (bruised chest) will not play vs. the Blazers on Sunday.
Mike Tokito on Twitter
ImpactNick Collison will replace him in the starting lineup.
Serge Ibaka (chest) a game-time call Sunday | 01/13/2013 7:57 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka (chest contusion) is a game-time decision to face the Blazers on Sunday.
John Rohde on Twitter
ImpactHe bruised his chest Friday and he didn't return to the game. Ibaka is as durable as they come and he hasn't missed a game since the 2009-10 season. If he does surprise us and doesn't play, Nick Collison would pick up most of the slack.
Serge Ibaka (chest) in jeopardy for Sunday? | 01/13/2013 10:57 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka (bruised chest) didn't return to Friday's game after bruising his chest in the third quarter, leaving him questionable to play vs. the Blazers on Sunday.
ImpactThe Thunder had Friday's game in hand at the time of Ibaka's injury and we'd be surprised if he missed any games, but we should soon have confirmation of his status.
Serge Ibaka has another quiet game | 01/12/2013 2:58 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had his second quiet game in a row on Friday with six points, seven rebounds, one block and one foul in 24 minutes during an easy 116-101 win over the Lakers.
ImpactHe came up empty on Wednesday with just six points and three boards, but at least that was in 32 minutes. We can't overstate our lack of concern over this two-game slump and it's his worst stretch so far this season. If you think his owner is wavering a bit, cue up those buy-low offers.
Ibaka has a rare bad game on Wednesday | 01/10/2013 1:21 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had an off night in Wednesday's win over the Wolves with six points, three rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 32 minutes.
ImpactHe missed both of his attempts from the line and it marked the first time he failed to convert a free throw in which he had an attempt. We're not the least bit concerned over Ibaka and Scott Brooks would be out of his mind to limit his minutes this year.
Serge Ibaka goes off for 26 points on Monday | 01/07/2013 10:43 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka shot 12-of-17 from the field for 26 points with 11 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one 3-pointer in a loss to the Wizards on Monday.
ImpactIt is the third time in his last five games in which he's hit a triple. Ibaka doesn't nearly get the respect he deserves with his offensive game and he's shooting an impressive 46 percent on his jumpers this year. He's providing first-round value in fantasy leagues and hasn't missed a game since the 2009-10 season.
Ibaka scores 19 with eight and two blocks | 01/06/2013 4:43 PM
NewsSerge Ibaka shot 8-of-12 from the field for 19 points with eight boards, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 36 minutes against the Raptors on Sunday.
ImpactHe did have five turnovers in the game despite the productive outing on offense. Ibaka is dead last in the NBA for assist-to-turnover ratio, but his owners could care less with his monster season thanks to his 2.9 blocks per game.
Ibaka double-doubles against the Sixers | 01/05/2013 4:05 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with 10 rebounds and three steals in the Thunder's win over the Sixers on Friday.
ImpactIbaka didn't have a block tonight, but he is averaging 15.0 points, 10.9 boards, and 2.6 blocks per game over his last 10 contests so we're pretty sure owners are okay with it. He's also a top 10-20 play in 9- and 8-cat leagues, respectively. Kevin Durant scored 26 points, and Kevin Martin added 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting (4-of-4 3PTs) with three rebounds, one steal, and one block in the win.
Serge Ibaka goes for 14-8-5 in loss | 01/03/2013 1:38 AM
NewsSerge Ibaka had 14 points, eight rebounds and five blocks Wednesday, and also hit a 3-pointer for the second time in as many games.
ImpactOwners shouldn't get comfortable with Ibaka hitting threes, as it's simply not a part of his game on most nights. He's been very consistent all season and is averaging nearly 15 points, 10 boards and 2.8 blocks over his last five games.
