An MRI revealed that Carmelo Anthony has a small tear in his left shoulder.
The plan for Anthony will be to let the injury heal on its own for three or four weeks, then if there is no improvement, surgery will become an option. Melo's shooting numbers were awful in the postseason, making just 29.8 percent from the field. There's no correlation to his shoulder causing this issue, but it does make some sense since he was visibly bothered by the issue over the past month. Regardless of the treatment, Anthony should be ready for the 2013-14 opener.

Anthony can opt out and become an unrestricted free agent, but the expectation is that if he does do that, it will be in order for him to sign a long-term deal with the Knicks. "I'm going to be here for many years," Carmelo said. "I can't even think about that right now. That would be selfish on my part to even sit back and think about the situation like that."

Team doctors told Melo that the shoulder is "stable" but it's been bothering him since April 15th and he wisely wants to rule out any structural damage. The reigning scoring champ is likely to have a familiar supporting cast next season -- mid-season pickup Kenyon Martin is New York's biggest unrestricted free agent, while J.R. Smith has a $2.9 million player option, Chris Copeland will likely be a restricted free agent, and Pablo Prigioni has an affordable qualifying offer.

Carmelo Anthony shot 12-of-28 from the field for 28 points with six boards, one steal and one 3-pointer during an 85-75 victory over the Pacers on Thursday.
The Knicks weren't exactly spectacular in this game, making 41.0 percent of their shots and only handing out 12 assists on their 32 field goals. They kept their turnovers down and really just allowed the Pacers to keep shooting themselves in the foot. Anthony used his normal attack with a litany of jumpers, but unlike the last two games, they were falling for him. The Knicks will try and tie the series in Indiana on Saturday.

The Pacers lead the series 3-1 and need to win just one more game to send the Knicks packing. Melo hasn't hit a field goal in the fourth quarter of the last two games, which will have to change if they have any hope of coming back and winning three straight games against the defensive-minded Pacers.

Carmelo Anthony reiterated that he'll "continue to take those shots" he feels he should be taking.

There had been some talk about Carmelo Anthony moving to small forward so Kenyon Martin could slide into the starting lineup at power forward in an effort to better matchup with Indy, but it doesn't sound like it's going to happen. The Knicks will stick with the same starting lineup for now, but if they go down 3-1, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the team get desperate and experiment in Game 5.

Carmelo Anthony described his injured shoulder as just "alright" said and he's "living with it" for now.
Anthony said he'll continue to wear a pad on the area, which apparently didn't bother him enough to stop Tuesday's 32-point, nine-rebound performance in Game 2. Unless the injury suddenly worsens over time or through contact, we expect Melo will be in the lineup and playing major minutes on a nightly basis.

Melo was great tonight as the Pacers weren't as physical with him in Game 2. Raymond Felton had 14 points, Iman Shumpert scored 13, Kenyon Martin added 10, while Pablo Prigioni was perfect, hitting 4-of-4 shots and 2-of-2 3-pointers for 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. The Knicks will look to reclaim homecourt advantage on Saturday in Indy for Game 3.

Carmelo Anthony said that he feels he's been taking good shots during the last four games.
Melo is 35-of-110 over his last four games, good for 31.8 percent, but that doesn't seem to be bothering him. "I feel the shots I'm taking I should take," he said. "I'm going to keep shooting." We really didn't expect Anthony to say anything beyond that, and he'll remain at power forward for Game 2 vs. the Pacers.

Raymond Felton suggested that the Pacers intentionally targeted Carmelo Anthony's injured shoulder during Game 1, though Melo downplayed the injury.
"[The shoulder] is not something I'll constantly talk about," said Melo. "I'll deal with it, probably get some treatment for it, and get through it." His status for Game 2 isn't in doubt, but he's shooting just 37.8 percent in the playoffs and needs to improve to even the series at 1-1.

Melo shot 41.4 percent in NY's losses this year compared to 46.5 percent in wins, which doesn't seem too bad considering his sub-par play lately. He'll look to turn it around on Tuesday.

"Only time I really feel it is when it's getting hit extremely hard, getting yanked on or something like that," Melo said. "I'll be ready to rock at 3:30." The Pacers' elite defense held the Knicks to 91.8 points in four games this season, and Melo himself shot under 40 percent. We're likely to see some brutal low-scoring games, and Melo's individual matchup with Paul George could be the deciding factor in the series.

That's obviously a change from Anthony's "feels great" declaration Friday afternoon. Of course, Anthony also said after Friday's win that the shoulder popped out and back in during a fourth-quarter collision with Avery Bradley. Regardless of whether Anthony says he'll be ready for Game 1, it's clear that the shoulder is at least worth monitoring going forward.

Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points on 7-of-23 shooting with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block as the Knicks held on to beat the Celtics and advance to the conference semi-finals on Friday.
Anthony appeared to tweak his shoulder during the fourth quarter and we'll be watching that going forward, but the story of tonight was how the Knicks did their best Warriors imitation and almost blew a 26-point lead. Iman Shumpert scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half, Tyson Chandler went for nine and 12 with a steal and two blocks, and J.R. Smith had 13 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Carmelo Anthony shot 8-of-24 from the field for 22 points to go with seven boards and two assists in Wednesday's Game 5 92-86 loss to Boston.
He didn't make any 3-pointers for the second game in a row. Melo has really cooled off shooting the ball and he made just 40.7 percent from the field in his previous four games against the Celtics. The Knicks have been living and dying by the jumper and made just 5-of-22 from downtown as a team. If they don't find their stroke on Friday, they could be looking at a Game 7.

Carmelo Anthony wasn't bashful about shooting on Sunday during Game 4's loss to the Celtics, making 10-of-25 from the field for 36 points, seven boards, two assists, one steal and seven turnovers in 45 minutes.
He missed all seven of his attempts from beyond the arc and his jumper wasn't falling making just seven attempts outside of the paint. The Knicks got hot in the second half thanks to Raymond Felton and this game really shouldn't have been close, but Boston had a meltdown in the second half. Melo will look to rebound on Wednesday at MSG for Game 5.

Carmelo Anthony shot 12-of-25 from the field for 26 points with one board, one steal and two 3-pointers during Game 3's easy 90-76 win over the Celtics.
The Knicks just cruised right along on offense, shooting 50 percent from the field, had 22 of their 38 field goals assisted and scored 26 points off turnovers. Raymond Felton continued his strong postseason with 15 points and 10 assists in 35 minutes. Tyson Chandler played had six points and eight boards in 30 minutes, which is his highest total since April 7. The Knicks will look to pull off the sweep on Sunday.

Carmelo Anthony put the team on his back for a 87-71 win over the Celtics on Tuesday with 34 points, four boards and two 3-pointers in 40 minutes.
It was Melo's fourth playoff game in a row with at least 30 points. Including the regular season, he's averaged 36.5 points per game in his last 10 contests and is locked in. It was his usual jump-shot fest on Tuesday with only one of his 11 field goals coming from within 12 feet of the basket. The Celtics aren't doing a terrible job defending him and Anthony has shot just 45.3 percent from the field in the two games, which is way down from his regular-season April shooting of 53.8 percent. Game 3 will take place Friday night in Boston.

Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 36 points on 13-of-29 shooting during Saturday's 85-78 win over the Celtics with six boards, one assist, four steals and four 3-pointers.
This year's scoring champ didn't cool off in the postseason and his 36 points today is just a shade under his 36.9 points per game from April. Melo was up to his usual jump-shooting ways and only one of his field goals came from within eight feet. He won Eastern Conference Player of the Month in April and the Knicks will be living and dying by Melo for their entire stay in the playoffs.

As expected, Carmelo Anthony (shoulder), Tyson Chandler (neck) and Kenyon Martin (ankle) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Hawks.
None of the three players were expected to suit up, and with Kevin Durant sitting out tonight's Thunder game, Anthony has won the scoring crown for the 2012/13 season. The Knicks will likely go with the same group we saw on Monday of Pablo Prigioni, Iman Shumpert, Chris Copeland, James White and Steve Novak in the starting lineup.

Melo has the scoring title chase going for him but the Knicks have a three-game lead over the Pacers and each team has three games to go. Some rest would not be out of the question, so owners want to pay attention to updates as we go.

Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points in a 118-111 loss at Chicago on Thursday, adding 19 boards, two assists and one block in 45 minutes.
The Knicks had their 13-game winning streak snapped and Carmelo was trying to be a hero, shooting just 13-of-34 from the field. Jimmy Butler played some in-his-face defense and perhaps Butler's comments may have influenced Melo's stubbornness. "There are ways you can get into him, try to get into his head a little bit," Butler said about Melo during Thursday's shootaround. Anthony is still averaging an absurd 39.8 points per game in April and he should be able to win the scoring crown.

Carmelo Anthony kept up his red-hot scoring streak on Tuesday, shooting 13-of-21 from the field for 36 points with eight boards, six assists and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes against the Wizards.
Melo went off in the third quarter with 21 in that period and he carved up the Wizards tonight. It was his fifth game in a row scoring at least 36 points. What's more, He shot 61.0 percent over that span. He's not quite in the running for MVP, but he's arguably the MVP for the second half.

Carmelo Anthony took the league lead in points per game on Sunday with 36 points to go with 12 boards, one block and three 3-pointers on 15-of-29 shooting during a 125-120 win over the Thunder.
Anthony also grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the win. He how has 28.44 points per game to edge Kevin Durant's 28.35 for the scoring title race. The Knicks are the hottest team in the NBA and have won 12 games in a row. Melo's April has been a little ridiculous, averaging 41.8 points per game and the Knicks' last five wins have all come against teams that are in the playoffs.

Carmelo Anthony shot 17-of-28 from the field for 41 points with 14 boards, one assist and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes during an easy 101-83 win over Milwaukee.
He's a one-man wrecking crew and scored a combined 131 points in his last three games. Melo is now at 28.32 points per game on the season, which is just slightly behind Kevin Durant's 28.38. Needless to say, Sunday's game in Oklahoma City should be a lot of fun.

Carmelo Anthony matched his career high with 50 points in a win at Miami on Tuesday to go with two boards, two assists, one steal, one block and seven 3-pointers on 18-of-26 shooting.
He was giving Shane Battier the business for the entire game and Melo was on fire to start the game, making 14 of his first 17 shots. He joined Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant as the only players to scored 50 in a game this year. His 27.9 points per game rank second in the league and he's obviously over the knee injury that was bothering him last month.

Carmelo Anthony shot 11-of-28 from the field for 32 points with 11 boards, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 36 minutes against the Bobcats on Friday.
He has been firing at will in his last five games with an average of 25.6 shots per game. This is nothing new for Anthony and he leads the NBA in shots per game with 21.6. He looks to be healthy and should be good to go, but his owners should be expecting the Knicks to rest him for at least one game.

Carmelo Anthony played 40 minutes against the Grizzlies in a 108-101 win on Wednesday, scoring 22 points with seven boards, three assists and one steal.
The minutes are way up and the Knicks really don't have the luxury to sit Melo as they look to get a two or three seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. He should be starting in all leagues and he looks to be over his knee ailment.

Carmelo Anthony had 29 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two 3-pointers, but hit just 10-of-30 shots in Tuesday's easy win over the Celtics.
Melo's shot wasn't falling, but J.R. Smith saved the day by hitting a majority of his and scoring 32 points. The good news is that Melo's knee appears to be healthy and he's playing for his owners in the playoffs. Ten days ago, things weren't looking great for Anthony's status, so some poor shooting nights at least mean he's playing for the Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony said he's not worried about playing big minutes despite his recent knee issues.
Melo played 46 minutes Friday in just his second game back after having his knee drained over a week ago. Coach Mike Woodson had planned to play Anthony just 32 minutes against Toronto, which is around what he played in his first game. "He can't control that. He's got to coach the game. If I've got to play 48 I've got to play 48," Anthony said after scoring 37 points against the Raptors. Melo did admit he's not sure how his knee will react to the strain but it doesn't sound like that will slow him down, which is good news for fantasy owners.

Anthony was listed in the Knicks' starting lineup, which is about as strong a sign as you can get that Melo will play tonight. With Tyson Chandler (knee) out at least a week, the Knicks are in desperate need of a healthy start to get them back on track. We expect Melo will play as many minutes as his health allows and owners should get him into their lineups immediately.

We noted that Anthony was targeting a return on Wednesday against Orlando, and it looks like he'll be back in action. Melo's return comes not one day too soon with Tyson Chandler (neck) out of the lineup, and he'll play as many minutes as his health will allow him to on Wednesday.

Carmelo Anthony (knee) said that it's "night and day" since he had his knee drained, and he's now able to "move laterally" and jump.
Anthony tried to play before getting his knee drained, but he looked stiff and uncomfortable doing so. Since lateral movement and the ability to jump are only slightly important when playing professional basketball, we'd imagine this will help Anthony stay on the floor. He did "intense shooting drills" before Monday's game and is tentatively targeting a return on Wednesday against Orlando. "Since the day after, I've felt it was back to normal," he said. "It's just getting the pop and power back in the knee." Melo also revealed that the fluid in his knee was from a "slight hamstring pull."

Carmelo Anthony (knee) will not play on Monday, but he feels "much better" and is optimistic that he will be pain-free once he returns.
The Knicks play four times this week, so a return Wednesday vs. the Magic would still leave Melo with three games. With Tyson Chandler (neck, knee) and Kurt Thomas (foot) also questionable to play, the Knicks will go small on Monday with Pablo Prigioni sliding into the starting lineup.

This doesn't help fantasy owners at all, as it sounds like both players won't have their availability determined until shortly before tipoff. Smith, Kenyon Martin, Chris Copeland and Marcus Camby will be thrust into larger roles.

Melo was very limited during Saturday's practice and Chandler never took the court, so we're expecting a makeshift frontcourt for New York on Sunday. Kenyon Martin and Chris Copeland, in particular, will play heavy minutes, and Copeland's offensive upside makes him an intriguing pick-and-play in deeper leagues.

This was an expected move and there's still a chance he can give it a go in a tough road matchup. Even though Melo put up a 42-spot against the Clippers in their last game, we'd still say he's a little closer to doubtful than probable since the Knicks made a mistake in starting him against Denver on Wednesday.

The Knicks are scheduled to play the Clippers on Sunday, although it remains unclear if Anthony will suit up for the game. Melo had his knee drained Thursday and is officially considered questionable for Sunday. Owners' concerns over Melo's knee reached their peak when coach Mike Woodson admitted that even he was worried about his superstar's knee. At this point, there's no givens with Anthony. Owners will just have to roll with the punches and hope for the best.

The Knicks will list him as day-to-day because that's what they do for everyone who has an injury on their team, but Anthony has no timetable to return. "It started stiffening up," Anthony said after he was forced from Wednesday's game in the third quarter. "Moving laterally, I didn't feel like I had any pop, any power." Anthony admitted he wouldn't have played if it wasn't his return to Denver, and in retrospect, it could prove to be a costly decision.

Carmelo Anthony will travel back to New York to get his left knee drained on Thursday.
That means he will not play against the Blazers Thursday night and it'll be easy to second-guess the Knicks for playing Melo on Wednesday. His knee injury has been a major mystery and his MRI from two weeks ago wasn't revealed until a few days after the exam. He was also ruled out almost instantaneous when he suffered a tweak on March 4. A knee drain doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be out for an extended period of time, but the Knicks do have four more games in the next week. What's more, the Knicks would be wise to be patient with him. Iman Shumpert was terrific on Wednesday and looks like a nice pickup with the Knicks busy schedule the rest of the way.

Carmelo Anthony went to the locker room with nine minutes left in the third quarter of Wednesday's game and will not return.
The Knicks are getting crushed in Denver and with the Knicks finishing a road back-to-back in Portland on Thursday, so there's no reason to keep him in the lineup. There has been talk of Melo entertaining the idea of getting his knee drained and that will be a hot topic for the coming weeks. J.R. Smith, Chris Copeland and Iman Shumpert would stand to benefit with Melo out of the lineup.

He should have no problem maintaining his season average of 29.0 points.

Stoudemire's willingness to accept a bench role has certainly helped the duo coalesce, as has Melo's sudden ability to pass to open teammates. While Melo should be started in every league possible, this new-found chemistry might make it the perfect time to sell high on Stoudemire.
