The Grizzlies came away from their interview with Alvin Gentry extremely impressed by the former Suns coach, a source tells CBS Sports' Ken Berger.
Gentry interviewed with the Grizzlies on Friday. He was expected to meet with owner Robert Pera and CEO Jason Levien. Gentry got a bit of a short stick in Phoenix, stuck with an extremely undermanned roster operating under a strict budget. Berger reports the Grizzlies will former Nuggets coach George Karl on Monday and then assistant Dave Joerger will follow Tuesday. Joerger is considered the favorite for the job, while Karl has reportedly expressed a strong interest in the position. It remains to be seen if Friday's interview will vault Gentry to the top of the list.

Phoenix has been focusing on SGs and SFs during recent draft-prospect workouts. Sunday's group included New Mexico G/F Tony Snell, whom the Suns would be happy to draft with the No. 30 pick if he's still available, but they're also interested in Providence SG Ricky Ledo, Long Beach State G/F James Ennis, and others. McDonough has previously stated that he'll try to acquire another first-round pick in the draft, in addition to the Suns' No. 5 and No. 30 picks.
