Jerod Mayo (pectoral) participating in OTAs | 05/30/2014 8:02 PM
NewsPatriots WLB Jerod Mayo (pectoral) is participating in Organized Team Activities.
ImpactMayo is progressing well after missing the final 10 games of 2013. He's been cleared for team drills at OTAs and remains on track for training camp. With Dont'a Hightower moving into more of a pass rush role, Mayo and Jamie Collins are ticketed for the majority of snaps in the Patriots' nickel packages.

ImpactMayo went down in Week 6. "I don't know how it'll feel when we start going out there doing different things as far as a little bit of contact drills," Mayo said Tuesday. "Even though there's no pads, you can fall a certain way so I'm just gonna take it one day at a time and see how it goes." Mayo did say that he's getting stronger "every day." He's expected to be ready for training camp.

Patriots place 2-time Pro Bowl LB Mayo on IR | 10/16/2013 9:47 AM
NewsPatriots placed WLB Jerod Mayo (pectoral) on injured reserve, ending his season.
ImpactMayo needed surgery to repair the right pectoral muscle he tore against the Saints in Week 6. It's another massive blow to a defense that has already lost captain and Vince Wilfork (Achilles') for the season. Second-round rookie Jamie Collins will step in at weak-side linebacker, but he's going to struggle to replace a guy that has led the Patriots in tackles for five straight years, been to two Pro Bowls and calls the defensive plays. Mayo should be back in 2014 at a reasonable $3.25 million base salary.
Report: Jerod Mayo indeed done for the season | 10/16/2013 8:29 AM
NewsESPN Boston confirms that WLB Jeron Mayo (pectoral) is not expected to play again this season.
ImpactMayo tore his pectoral during Sunday's win over the Saints and reportedly underwent surgery. The Patriots may be able to replace his talent with No. 52 overall pick Jamie Collins, but they won't be able to truly replace what he brings to a defense allowing just 16.2 points per game (fourth-best in the NFL). Mayo plays every down, calls the plays in the defensive huddle, has led the team in tackles in five straight years and has been to the Pro Bowl twice. The Patriots previously lost defensive captain Vince Wilfork (Achilles') for the season as well.
Report: Pats LB Jerod Mayo has torn pectoral | 10/15/2013 7:46 PM
NewsYahoo Sports reports Patriots WLB Jerod Mayo underwent surgery for a torn pectoral Tuesday, and could miss the rest of the season.
ImpactIf true, it's highly unlikely Mayo plays another down this season. The Patriots have already used their short-term I.R. slot on RB Shane Vereen (wrist surgery). Mayo suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Saints, but the Pats haven't updated his status since. It would be a big loss for a defense that's already down NT Vince Wilfork. It's worth nothing, however, that Mayo has graded out spectacularly poorly in Pro Football Focus' ratings.
