Bartolo Colon pitched the A's past the Rangers by allowing just two runs over seven innings on Monday.
Colon walked as many batters tonight (two) as he did in his first eight starts combined, but he had his best outing in a month anyway, winning for the first time since April 23. He's 4-2 with a 4.31 ERA overall.

All three of the Red Sox' hits were singles, and only once did they get more than one runner on in an inning. The game goes down as a shutout for Colon, as it was called after seven innings due to rain. The rotund right-hander has allowed just one run over his last two starts, and he now holds a 2.42 ERA and 0.92 WHIP for the season. He'll try to keep it going this weekend against the Orioles.

Colon gave up a run in the first, but he shut the Astros down for five innings afterwards, allowing just two hits along the way. He struck out three and walked none. Aided by his two starts against the Astros, Colon is 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA. AL-only leaguers may want to sit him with a start against the Red Sox at Fenway up next.

He displayed good command on the afternoon, issuing zero walks while striking out three. All of the damage came in the first inning, then Colon settled down and cruised through his final three frames. The veteran right-hander still has to serve a five game suspension once the season begins, and will face serious pressure from youngsters Dan Straily and A.J. Griffin if he wants to maintain his spot in the A's rotation.
