|Assets:||Has a bulldog mentality on the mound. His mid-90s heat is nasty, especially when combined with his tremendous curveball. Is at his best when pitching low in the strike zone.|
|Flaws:||Must improve his control, because walks tend to hurt him early and often. An improved change-up would help his cause significantly.|
|Career Potential:||Talented starter with upside, but also with consistency and injury issues.|

Bailey goes seven scoreless but Reds lose | 05/19/2013 4:39 PM
NewsHomer Bailey tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Phillies but the Reds lost late.
ImpactAroldis Chapman blew the Reds' one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. Bailey did his part, yielding only five hits and a walk while fanning three batters. He now has a stellar 3.09 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 55/15 K/BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings this season and should keep cruising next time out against the light-hitting Cubs.
Bailey goes the distance as Reds best Marlins | 05/14/2013 11:47 PM
NewsHomer Bailey pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in the Reds' 6-2 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.
ImpactBailey limited the Marlins to just six hits and no walks, throwing 88 of his 125 pitches for strikes. The Marlins lineup will make a Cy Young contender out of anyone, but Bailey is capable of pitching this well for sustained stretches as evidenced by his 3.68 ERA and 13 wins in 2012. He's now struck out 52 batters in 51 1/3 innings and should be a safe play in standard formats going forward. He'll get the Phillies his next time out.
Bailey allows four runs, but Reds down Braves | 05/07/2013 11:20 PM
NewsHomer Bailey allowed four runs over five innings but took a no-decision as the Reds beat the Braves on Tuesday.
ImpactBailey wasn't sharp, as he issued four free passes on the night to go along with five hits. His offense took him off the hook for what would have been his third-straight loss, though, as they rallied to win it in the ninth. A start Monday against the Marlins should cure what ails the 27-year-old.
Bailey goes seven innings in tough-luck loss | 04/26/2013 9:27 PM
NewsHomer Bailey yielded one run in seven innings Friday in a tough-luck loss to the Nationals.
ImpactBailey gave up just five hits and didn't walk a batter, but an RBI single by Jayson Werth was enough to put him on the losing side. He struck out six in the loss. After a strong second half last season, Bailey owns a 2.81 ERA and 32/9 K/BB ratio in 32 innings across his first five starts this year. He has quickly become a must-start every time out in fantasy leagues.
Homer Bailey whiffs eight | 04/22/2013 1:09 PM
NewsHomer Bailey struck out eight while permitting just two runs over six frames in Sunday's 10-6 win over the Marlins.
ImpactBailey didn't stay in long enough to get the win, but it was a second straight nice showing. The right-hander had a rough outing against the Cardinals earlier this month but has been terrific otherwise. He'll carry a 3.24 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into Washington next weekend.
Homer Bailey gives up seven runs in loss | 04/10/2013 4:38 PM
NewsHomer Bailey was tagged for seven runs in five-plus innings by the Cardinals on Wednesday.
ImpactBailey, who was hit by a comebacker earlier in the game, left with the trainer in the sixth, but he didn't seem hurt and the Reds never announced an injury. His two starts this year have resulted in a 15-0 Reds win over the Nationals and a 10-0 loss today.
Homer Bailey spins six shutout innings in win | 04/05/2013 10:30 PM
NewsHomer Bailey spun six shutout frames in Friday's win over the Nationals.
ImpactPicking up where he left off last year, Bailey gave up just two hits and three walks while striking out six. He threw 56 out of 98 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old was brilliant over the final three months last season and may be poised to take a step forward in 2013.
Homer Bailey rocked again | 03/25/2013 6:33 PM
NewsHomer Bailey was knocked around again Monday, allowing nine runs -- eight earned -- over 3 1/3 innings against the Mariners.
ImpactBailey was able to strike out five, but he was hit hard from the get-go in this one. It's been a common theme this spring, as he now holds an 8.64 ERA during Cactus League action. On the bright side, he's struck out 18 over 16 2/3 frames.
Homer Bailey knocked around Tuesday | 03/19/2013 6:32 PM
NewsHomer Bailey labored through 4 1/3 innings against the White Sox Tuesday, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits and a walk.
ImpactBailey didn't look so bad when compared to his counterpart, John Danks, but it wasn't a pretty outing for him, either. He did record five strikeouts, though, and now has 13 in 13 1/3 frames this spring despite a 5.40 ERA.
Homer Bailey not so good Thursday | 03/14/2013 7:19 PM
NewsHomer Bailey surrendered three runs over four frames Thursday against the Mariners.
ImpactHe gave up six hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out one, getting taken deep by Michael Morse. Bailey has a 4.00 ERA over nine innings this spring, sporting a nice 8/1 K/BB ratio. He had a mini-breakout for the Reds last season and should be a solid fantasy option again in 2013.
Homer Bailey touched for first runs of spring | 03/09/2013 6:59 PM
NewsHomer Bailey allowed three runs -- one earned -- in his two innings of the Reds 6-5 win over the Brewers Saturday.
ImpactBailey finally had the year everyone's been waiting for in 2012. The 26-year-old won 13 games while recording a 3.68 ERA in 33 starts. He'll look to build on that this season, where he'll be firmly entrenched in the Reds rotation. There isn't much more upside left for the right-hander, but a replication of his 2012 numbers would be a welcome addition to many a fantasy team.
Homer Bailey throws scoreless frame in debut | 02/26/2013 6:57 PM
NewsHomer Bailey threw a scoreless innings Tuesday in the Reds' Cactus League loss to the Padres.
ImpactBailey started the game but only lasted one frame. The Reds are easing the right-hander into action because spring training will run a bit longer than normal. He should hold value this year in deep mixed leagues.

John Fay on Twitter
ImpactContract details haven't been reported, but Bailey won't be getting a multi-year extension this offseason. He posted a 3.68 ERA and 168/52 K/BB ratio in 208 innings in 2012 and is under team control through 2014. Reds GM Walt Jocketty says he plans to revisit a long-term deal with Bailey "at some point."
Reds haven't talked extension with Bailey | 01/27/2013 6:09 PM
NewsThe Reds have yet to open contract extension talks with Homer Bailey.
ImpactBailey is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter and GM Walt Jocketty said publicly that he would like to sign both him and Mat Latos to long-term contracts. However, it sounds like the Reds may just look to avoid arbitration on a one-year deal like they did last season. Bailey posted a 3.68 ERA and 168/52 K/BB ratio in 208 innings in 2012 and is under team control through 2014.
Bailey files for $5.8 million in arbitration | 01/18/2013 7:17 PM
NewsHomer Bailey requested $5.8 million and was offered $4.75 million by the Reds when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday.
Jon Heyman on Twitter
ImpactBailey, who is arbitration-eligible for the second time, earned $2.4 million last season while posting a 3.68 ERA and 168/52 K/BB ratio over 208 innings. This would be an ideal time for the two sides to continue talks about a contract extension.
