Ubaldo Jimenez delivered another strong effort in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday, surrendering two runs on seven hits over his five frames.
Jimenez racked up nine strikeouts on the evening while walking two. Unfortunately for Jimenez, Rich Hill came on in the sixth inning and immediately surrendered his 3-1 lead. Over his last four outings, he's compiled a 1.90 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings. While he's unlikely to continue at this pace, he's certainly usable in all fantasy formats for the time being. He'll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Tigers at home on Wednesday.

After a brutal start to the 2013 campaign, Jimenez has won three straight starts, while allowing just three earned runs in 18 2/3 innings and compiling a 20/6 K/BB ratio. While the overall numbers still look ugly, perhaps he's finally started to figure things out and regain the form that made him an All-Star with the Rockies. He'll look to continue his recent dominance when he takes on the Mariners at home on Friday and makes for an excellent spot play if unowned in fantasy leagues.

The righty has allowed seven runs in consecutive outings and now sports an 11.23 ERA and 1.83 WHIP for the season. Jimenez gets the Astros the next time out, but fantasy owners still can't trust him.

Jimenez has been below average since his breakout 2010 season, but Wednesday's start reminded us that he's still capable of pitching well. The right-hander struck out six batters while allowing fewer baserunners than innings pitched. He's an interesting name because of what he did a few seasons ago, but we'll pass until he shows this wasn't an aberration.

"I think he still has great stuff and the ability to be a very effective starting pitcher," Antonetti said. "But as we've talked about, the thing that's the key for him is consistency." Jimenez is coming off two straight disappointing seasons with the Indians, and hasn't come close to looking like the pitcher he was in 2010. While it's not unreasonable to think he could reestablish himself as a front-line starter, he'll need to prove he's over his control issues before fantasy owners can trust him again.
