While Buchholz is winless over his last three starts, he has a brilliant a 1.78 ERA and 1.04 WHIP to go along with a 69/24 K/BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings. He'll get the White Sox next week.

Clay Buchholz denies using sunscreen for grip | 05/09/2013 8:51 AM
NewsClay Buchholz denies that he has used sunscreen to get a better grip on the ball at any point this season.
ImpactBuchholz is being accused of doctoring the baseball with a combination of BullFrog-brand spray-on sunblock lotion and powdered rosin. But he claims he only uses that during day games, and hasn't done it this year. "I've used it in the past, but that wasn't on my arm at any time this season," Buchholz said. "Day games, you put sunscreen on. That's what you do, you put sunscreen on." The 28-year-old right-hander has a remarkable 1.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 56/18 K/BB ratio in 50 2/3 innings.
Pitchers using sunscreen to improve grip | 05/08/2013 3:04 PM
NewsJeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports was told by veteran pitchers and one source close to the Red Sox that that "about 90 percent" of pitchers use some form of spray-on sunscreen to get a better grip on the baseball.
ImpactAccording to Passan's sources, pitchers use the sunscreen -- usually BullFrog brand -- and a combination of powdered rosin. It's not exactly a new revelation, as former pitcher and current Blue Jays broadcaster Dirk Hayhurst wrote about it last year, but it's relevant again because of accusations that Clay Buchholz doctored the baseball during a recent start. MLB can't ban sunscreen and rosin isn't going anywhere, so it's tough to do anything about it. For what it's worth, Red Sox manager John Farrell said on WEEI on Wednesday that Buchholz does not put sunscreen on his arm.
Clay Buchholz strikes out nine Twins | 05/07/2013 12:14 AM
NewsBidding for his seventh win, Clay Buchholz fanned nine Twins on Monday, but he didn't factor into the decision after allowing four runs in six innings.
ImpactBuchholz didn't appear to go to his left arm as often tonight, though he did still did it on occasion. The Twins, for what it's worth, never expressed any concern about it. Buchholz gave up two runs in the first before coming back with two strikeouts to strand the bases loaded. He was pretty good from there and his pitches had great movement tonight, but he did miss a few too many spots.

Buchholz has now gone four straight starts without allowing a homer. He's given up just five runs this season. While an easy schedule has helped, it doesn't seem to be a fluke that he's racked up 40 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings.

ImpactBuchholz allowed just one single and walked one. The right-hander finishes Grapefruit League play with a microscopic 0.79 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 22 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings. Buchholz isn't a good bet to stay healthy in 2013, but he's probably worthy of a late-round selection in mixed leagues.
Clay Buchholz strikes out five Pirates | 03/23/2013 5:49 PM
NewsClay Buchholz limited the Pirates to one run in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Saturday.
ImpactBuchholz struck out five. The lone damage was Garrett Jones' solo homer in the second. Buchholz has allowed just two runs and posted a 16/5K/BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings this spring. We wouldn't bet big on him, but it is pretty encouraging. It's not like he was all that bad last year apart from April and a horrible season-ending outing against the Yankees (8 ER in 1 2/3 IP).

NewsClay Buchholz made his spring debut Saturday, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the Twins.
