Right when it looks like the 27-year-old outfielder might start cooling off, he does something special. Gomez is now batting .317 with a .943 OPS and 37 RBI in 66 games this season. He is on pace for 29 home runs, 88 RBI, 31 stolen bases and 102 runs scored.

Gomez is 8-for-16 over his last four games, raising his average to .338. He's not walking like he did this spring -- just three times in 77 at-bats -- but he's also striking out a bit less than usual. Obviously, he's not going to keep hitting for average like this. The Brewers and fantasy owners alike can enjoy while it lasts, however.

After signing an extension in the offseason, Gomez had gotten off to a slow start but finally broke though on Tuesday. He's now hitting .261 but has yet to steal a base after stealing 37 last season. If he can get both facets of his game going, watch out.

It was just a precautionary removal, as Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Gomez would have remained in the game if it was the regular season. The outfielder should return in a day or two.

Brewers signed OF Carlos Gomez to a three-year, $24 million contract extension.
It was originally reported to be a four-year deal, but Gomez is already locked in for $4.3 million in 2013 -- his final season of arbitration. This new extension ultimately buys out the center fielder's first three years of free agency. Gomez, 27, will make $7 million in 2014, $8 million in 2015 and $9 million in 2016. Those aren't awful wages for a guy who had 19 homers and 37 stolen bases in 2012, and who boasts excellent defensive range in center field.

According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Brewers have reached agreement on a four-year contract extension with outfielder Carlos Gomez.
Haudricourt says the deal, which covers Gomez's first four years of free agency, will be worth "about $27.5 million." That's not a bad amount of money if Gomez can produce like he did in 2012, but he currently owns a troubling .247/.294/.379 career batting line. Gomez will earn $4.3 million in 2013 -- his final year of arbitration.

Gomez also drew a walk. The 27-year-old former top prospect flashed major fantasy potential in 2012, slugging 19 homers and stealing 37 bases. He should serve as an excellent second or third outfielder again in 2013.

Carlos Gomez has decided not to play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
Gomez wants to focus all of his attention on preparing for the 2013 season, which is his walk year. "You know, he's got a lot of energy and he wants to help us play," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "It's a big year for him, what he does this year. That was part of the reason."
