Jay was caught stealing twice on three attempts, which is part of the reason he scored just once today. Overall, he's 3-for-7 stealing bases this spring. That was an area is which he showed considerable improvement last season, finishing 19-for-26. In his first two years in the majors, he was a dreadful 8-for-19 stealing bases.

Impact

While Jay was mediocre against lefties and terrible away from Busch Stadium, his overall numbers were very good last year. Plus, he's established himself as one of the game's better defensive center fielders. Even with Oscar Taveras breathing down his back, it's going to take more than a couple of slumps to cost him his starting job this year. That he hasn't done anything in his 46 at-bats this spring doesn't change much.
