Ned Yost said Saturday he's not going to stop giving Mike Moustakas playing time despite his early-season struggles.

It's encouraging to hear from the manager, considering Moustakas was hitting .189/.261/.331 heading into Saturday's game. There were high hopes for the 24-year old heading into the season, and there's still plenty of time for him to turn it around and make a positive impact this year. |

Moose's sixth-inning blast pulled the Royals to within two. He had a chance to do more damage in the eighth with two on but popped up to the catcher on Brian Matusz's first pitch. Moustakas has been fighting it for most of the season, but he's at least got his batting average above .200 again following the big night. |

Moustakas was expected to take a step forward this season but the third baseman had a rough April, hitting just .195 with five RBI on the month. The homer could be a sign of good things to come, though, as he's certainly capable of more than he's shown so far. The Royals are going to stick with Moose at the hot corner, so he should have ample opportunity to get it straightened out yet. |

It's one thing for the Royals to bat Moustakas cleanup against a right-hander. It's another to do it versus a top-notch left-hander like Chris Sale. We're about as anti-Jeff Francoeur as it gets, but it would have made a lot more sense to have him and Moustakas switch spots today, with Moustakas hitting eighth. The Royals might have even gotten a run that way. |
