Strasburg stellar over 8 frames, gets win #2 | 05/17/2013 12:49 AM
NewsStephen Strasburg gave up two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings as the Nationals vanquished the Padres 6-2 on Thursday.
ImpactHe walked three and struck out four, hurling 117 pitches before ceding to Rafael Soriano. Strasburg again wasn't at his best -- only 68 of those tosses were strikes -- but he handcuffed San Diego regardless. The 24-year-old right-hander has been considered a fantasy disappointment to this point, despite possessing a 2.83 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 55/18 K/BB rate. If everyone were judged similarly, we'd all be unemployed.

ImpactStrasburg was not sharp and got no support from his defense in the ugly all-around effort by Washington. The right-hander allowed five hits and walked two while striking out seven. He will carry a 1-5 record, 3.10 ERA and 1.18 WHIP into his next start against the Padres.

The talented 24-year-old right-hander owns a 3.13 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 36/12 K/BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings (six starts) this season.

ImpactThe Nationals might take the decision out of his hands, but it's a good sign that the forearm tightness he's dealing with isn't serious. Strasburg has been given medication and will be examined further by the team's medical staff before they make a decision about his next outing.
Strasburg dealing with forearm tightness | 04/29/2013 10:21 PM
NewsNationals manager Davey Johnson revealed after Monday's game that Stephen Strasburg is dealing with tightness in his right forearm.
Dan Kolko on Twitter
ImpactUh oh. The Nationals are giving Strasburg medication and will have him evaluated by team doctors before it's determined whether he'll make his next scheduled start. You'd have to think, especially with Strasburg having previously undergone Tommy John surgery, that the club will play it safe and hold him out for at least one outing. The right-hander holds an un-Strasburg-like 3.13 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP this season.
Stephen Strasburg let down by Nats again | 04/24/2013 4:32 PM

ImpactStrasburg recovered nicely after a three-run first inning today, but he again got little help from the offense. Mark Zuckerman on Twitter
ImpactNothing surprising about this. This will be Strasburg's second straight Opening Day assignment. The 24-year-old was shut down last year after throwing 159 1/3 innings in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but the Nationals are expected to lean more heavily on him this season. Even if he only throws around 190 innings or so, we think he could be a top five starting pitcher in mixed fantasy leagues.

Nats want Strasburg to throw 200 IP in '13 | 01/15/2013 9:42 AM
NewsNationals VP of player development Bob Boone told USA Today that the club would like to see Stephen Strasburg pitch 200 innings in 2013.
ImpactBoone was mainly clarifying a comment by Nationals manager Davey Johnson in December when he said that Strasburg would have "no restrictions" in 2013. "To say there's no restrictions really means, 'Hey, we'd like him to pitch 200 innings,' " said Boone. "But, you're not gonna say no restrictions like you might have on Steve Carlton, who would throw 320 innings. You're not gonna do that. There's always restrictions, but the meaning is, 'We're not gonna shut him down after 160 innings.'" With Strasburg expected to exceed 200 innings for the first time, he's poised to make a move to the top tier of fantasy starters.
