Matt Moore's struggles continue vs. Royals | 06/14/2013 10:27 PM
NewsMatt Moore's recent struggles continued in Friday's loss to the Royals, where he allowed five runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings.
ImpactMoore struck out four on the night, but also issued four free passes and needed 100 pitches to get through 5 1/3 innings. He was cruising along until the fifth, where the Royals struck for four runs to break the game open. After a dynamite start to the season, Moore owns a frightening 13.86 ERA and 3.00 WHIP over his last three starts. He'll look to right the ship when he takes on the Red Sox in Boston on Wednesday.
Matt Moore insists that he is feeling healthy | 06/10/2013 10:10 AM
NewsMatt Moore insisted Sunday evening that he is healthy.
ImpactMoore has allowed a total of seven walks, 19 hits and 15 runs (14 earned) over his last two outings, somewhat ruining his fantastic start to the 2013 regular season. But he feels fine and will try to bounce back next time out against the Royals. "It's nothing physical," said the left-hander. "There's no pain. I don't feel weak.
Matt Moore yields nine runs in loss to O's | 06/09/2013 5:08 PM
NewsMatt Moore coughed up nine runs -- eight earned -- over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Orioles.
ImpactMoore has allowed a total of 19 hits and 14 earned runs over his past two starts, spoiling some of the ace-like numbers that he had compiled this season. The young left-hander's ERA was 2.18 on May 31 and now it's 3.78. His WHIP was 1.25 on Sunday morning and now it's 1.35. Moore will try to get back on track next time out against the Royals. Talent is not the issue.
Moore allows six, takes first loss vs. Tigers | 06/04/2013 10:16 PM
NewsMatt Moore took his first loss of the season on Tuesday, giving up six runs over two innings against the Tigers.
ImpactMoore got out of the first inning unscathed but completely fell apart after that, walking six batters and allowing seven hits overall on the evening. The damage actually could have been worse, as Alex Torres relieved Moore with the bases loaded and no outs and put out the fire. He'll go for his ninth win once again on Sunday against the Orioles.
Matt Moore to start on Tuesday | 06/02/2013 11:18 AM
NewsMatt Moore will start on Tuesday against the Tigers.

ImpactHe's being moved up after pitching just one inning on Friday before a rain delay. Moving Moore up will also allow Alex Cobb an extra day to heal from his fingernail issue.
Matt Moore expected to start Tuesday | 06/01/2013 12:00 PM
NewsMatt Moore is expected to start Tuesday against the Tigers.
Roger Mooney on Twitter
ImpactMoore only pitched one inning last night due to the rain delay, so the Rays will move him up two days to start Tuesday. Jeremy Hellickson will start Sunday's series-finale vs. the Indians.
Matt Moore loses out to rain | 06/01/2013 3:05 AM
NewsMatt Moore's start Friday was ended by a rain delay after he threw a perfect first inning.
ImpactMoore threw just 11 pitches, so the Rays will have the option of bringing him back early next week. If he stays on schedule, he'd face the Tigers on Thursday.
Matt Moore pitches well but takes no-decision | 05/25/2013 8:17 PM
NewsMatt Moore took a no-decision despite allowing only one run in six innings Saturday against the Yankees.
ImpactThe Rays lost in extra innings after closer Fernando Rodney blew yet another save in the ninth. Moore did his part, limiting the Yankees to five hits and two walks. The 23-year-old left-hander is 8-0 with a 2.21 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 56/28 K/BB ratio in 61 innings this season. He should keep rolling next week against the Marlins.
Matt Moore moves to 8-0 with win over Orioles | 05/19/2013 5:19 PM
NewsMatt Moore ran his record to 8-0 after tossing seven innings of one-run ball in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Orioles.
ImpactMoore notched just three strikeouts on the day, but he allowed only five hits and walked one. The left-hander has still had some control problems this season, but he's limited the damage by giving up just 34 hits over 55 innings. A few more balls are sure to start falling in at some point, but the young southpaw should remain a fantasy ace. He'll face the Yankees next weekend.
Moore moves to 7-0 in Rays win over Red Sox | 05/14/2013 11:25 PM
NewsMatt Moore allowed three runs over six innings in the Rays' 5-3 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.
ImpactThe final line is a little misleading for the southpaw, as the Sox did all their damage with the first four batters of the game. Moore then held Red Sox batters to just one hit and two walks over the next five innings, striking out eight in the process. He now owns a 2.44 ERA through eight starts. His next will come Sunday as the Rays visit the Orioles.
Moore moves to 6-0 in victory over Blue Jays | 05/08/2013 10:51 PM
NewsMatt Moore allowed two runs over five innings, earning the win as the Rays beat the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
ImpactMoore wasn't stellar on Wednesday, but he didn't need to be. The lefty scattered six hits and four walks in his five innings, striking out just two. The effort was good enough to get him his sixth win, and Moore owns a 2.14 ERA on the season. He should be sharper Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Moore gives up four runs in no-decision | 05/04/2013 12:38 AM
NewsMatt Moore labored through Friday's start against the Rockies, giving up a season-high four runs over five innings in a no-decision.
ImpactMoore allowed seven hits (including two homers) to go along with four walks and three strikeouts. He threw just 53 out of 101 pitches for strikes before exiting. The young left-hander had allowed just four runs in 32 innings over his first five starts combined, but Coors Field can make even the best pitchers look mortal. We like his chances of getting back on track next week against the Blue Jays at home.

ImpactMoore yielded only three hits and struck out nine. He is now 5-0 with a brilliant 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 38/15 K/BB ratio in 32 innings (five starts) this season. The 23-year-old left-hander is ready to emerge as one of the top starting pitchers in Major League Baseball.
Matt Moore moves to 4-0 for Rays | 04/22/2013 10:57 PM
NewsMatt Moore gave up just one run and two hits in eight innings versus the Yankees to move to 4-0 on Monday.
ImpactWhile there was no doubting Moore's upside, it's still a surprise to see him pitching this well right out of the gate this year. He struck out nine more batters tonight, giving him 29 K's in 26 innings for the season. He's allowed just three runs and 10 hits.
Moore moves to 3-0 in win over Orioles | 04/17/2013 10:52 PM
NewsMatt Moore allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings, and the Rays beat the Orioles on Wednesday.
ImpactMoore's only blemish was a two-run homer, his first earned runs allowed on the year, by Adam Jones in the third inning. With seven strikeouts in the game, Moore has now fanned 20 batters in 18 innings of work this season. He'll try to keep the hot start going against the Yankees on Monday.
Matt Moore outstanding in victory over Tribe | 04/05/2013 10:05 PM
NewsMatt Moore turned in an outstanding performance in his season debut against the Indians on Friday, allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings.
ImpactMoore punched out eight on the evening while walking just two. The 23-year-old left-hander has always possessed immense talent, and if he can continue to improve his command and efficiency he'll quickly become a truly elite fantasy starter.
Matt Moore strikes out five Tigers | 03/30/2013 4:29 PM
NewsMatt Moore was sharp Saturday, allowing one hit in four innings and striking out five against the Tigers.
ImpactMoore might not be especially consistent, but he still figures to be one of the AL's better fantasy pitchers this year. After struggling initially, he allowed just two earned runs over 13 2/3 innings in his final three spring starts.
Matt Moore wild again Monday | 03/25/2013 11:30 PM
NewsMatt Moore allowed just two runs but walked five over 4 2/3 frames against the Pirates Monday.
ImpactHe also surrendered six hits and struck out three. With a 4.67 ERA and 13 walks over 17 1/3 Grapefruit League innings, Moore hasn't performed as hoped this spring, especially after he issued 81 walks during his rookie campaign. We still like him as a breakout candidate, but he has to start showing better control.
Matt Moore strikes out seven Phillies | 03/15/2013 4:21 PM
NewsMatt Moore allowed just an unearned run over five innings and struck out seven Friday in the Rays' 3-2 defeat of the Phillies.
ImpactThat's a better showing for Moore, who had given up seven runs and six walks in 7 2/3 innings this spring. He walked two today, and all three hits he allowed were singles.
Matt Moore gives up three runs to Red Sox | 03/10/2013 5:38 PM
NewsMatt Moore surrendered three runs in 3 2/3 innings Sunday in his start versus the Red Sox.
ImpactDavid Ross's homer supplied all of the runs. We're expecting a breakthrough season from Moore this year, but he's yet to show much while allowing seven runs and walking six in 7 2/3 innings this spring. It'd at least be nice to see him get the walks under control over the next couple of weeks.
Matt Moore shaky in relief | 02/28/2013 6:40 PM
NewsMaking his spring debut, Matt Moore gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings out of the pen Thursday against the Tigers.
ImpactMoore was scheduled to throw two innings, but he was shaky in walking two and allowing three hits. Read nothing into the fact that he was pitching in relief: the Rays were simply more interested in seeing what Roberto Hernandez could do with the start.
