Rookie coach Doug Marrone explained that the goal of Buffalo's new up-tempo offense is to create more offensive possessions and score more points.

The Bills won't just play fast to play fast, or to keep defenses on their heels. They're playing fast to rack up more yards and scores. "With tempo what you're trying to get done is statistically the amount of possessions you have per game equal the amount of points you score, so the tempo you run is not a gadget," Marrone said. "The aim is to get more possessions, knowing more possessions will get you more scores. We will use that as much as possible."

C.J. Spiller triggered an escalator in his contract, raising his 2013 salary from $1,300,834 to $2,623,334.
Evan Silva's Post-Season Top 150
That hefty increase makes Spiller the highest-paid back in the Buffalo backfield, just ahead of Fred Jackson's $2.15 million. Spiller, in his third year out of Clemson, set new career-highs all across the board. He ran the ball 207 times for 1,244 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 43 catches for 459 yards and two more scores. Spiller checks in at No. 4 on our own Evan Silva's post-season Top 150 fantasy rankings for 2013, which is accessible at the link below.

New Bills coach Doug Marrone's Syracuse offenses finished with more rushing than pass attempts in each of Marrone's four seasons as head coach.
Silva's Post-Season Top 150
Running more than passing is essentially unheard of in the NFL. It's more common in college, but still a strong indication that Marrone is a run-first offensive mind. Nathaniel Hackett, now Buffalo's offensive coordinator, was on staff for three of those years. During Marrone's tenure, the Orange averaged just 401.5 pass attempts per year compared to 465 runs. This could be great news for C.J. Spiller. Find more nuggets like this in Evan Silva's Post-Season Top-150 fantasy rankings, available at the link below.

The Bills plan to use both C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson in "multiple" sets.

"If you're a guy that's happy with being a team player and a role player and you get rings instead of individual accolades then you'll be happy with your role," said RBs coach Tyrone Wheatley. "We could do two-back, we could be one back. We could be single back, we could be shotgun. It's a multiple set." It doesn't sound at all like the plan is to have both Spiller and Jackson on the field at the same time. How the Bills handle both backs will be something to watch this summer.

New Bills OL coach Pat Morris has coached up offensive lines that have blocked for the NFL's No. 1 rushing team three times in his career.
buffalobills.com
Morris has been a head offensive line coach in 12 seasons, coaching the 49ers, Vikings, Lions, and Buccaneers. It's a pretty good ratio all things considered. The Bills ranked sixth in the NFL in 2012 rushing, and have the makings of another top-notch rushing team should they re-sign free agent LG Andy Levitre. It's something to keep in mind for likely 2013 feature back C.J. Spiller.

New Bills OC Nathaniel Hackett ran a fast-paced, no-huddle offense as Syracuse's offensive coordinator in 2012.
Buffalo News
The offense is a modernized variation of the old Bills "K-Gun" attack, which was quarterbacked by Jim Kelly. Syracuse's 2012 offense ranked first in the Big East in total yards, third in points, third in rushing, and second in passing. "You've got to constantly move, move, move," Syracuse LT Justin Pugh described. "If you go out there and you're able to get the (defense) going nonstop, just going at them, going at them, it's going to wear them down."
