In an interview on the John Murphy Show, Kolb told the host that the Bills may not run a no-huddle offense as their base, but they're determined to run plays at a fast clip. "A big problem, especially for young players at this level, is they slow down because they're thinking too much. If you get them into a no-huddle, you get them into a quick style of offense, then they're just reading and reacting," said Kolb.

The Bills have little reason to anoint Kolb the starter in April, but he's a prohibitive favorite over Tarvaris Jackson. There's a possibility Kolb could get Russell Wilson-ed by a rookie QB - perhaps Syracuse's Ryan Nassib - but it's his job to lose. The smoke connecting Nassib to Buffalo should continue to grow thicker between now and the draft.

"I think a lot of times in this league you have people who are set in their ways and they follow other people's leads all the time," Kolb said in a possible shot at former coach Ken Whisenhunt. "I'm very optimistic about what we're gonna do." Kolb will be piloting new coach Doug Marrone's "K-Gun" hurry-up offense. Even if the Bills use an early-round pick on a QB, Kolb will enter camp the favorite to start.

Tap the breaks on Matt Flynn-to-Oakland. Despite a Friday report that a Flynn trade was "imminent", multiple indications since have pointed to Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie weighing his options. In our estimation, signing Kolb without coughing up picks would be a far smarter pursuit then dealing the Seahawks draft selections the Raiders need to rebuild a putrid roster. Kolb is only ten months older than Flynn, and neither is a franchise-caliber quarterback.

Per PFT, Buffalo is "at least interested in kicking the tires." Kolb's market has been dead silent for more than a week. He was released by Arizona on March 15. Buffalo's current first-string quarterback is Tarvaris Jackson, backed up only by 2012 UDFA Aaron Corp. They obviously need an upgrade. The Bills are also likely to use an early-round draft pick on a signal caller.

The free-agent market is bare, but some underwhelming options could be Matt Leinart, Jason Campbell, and Brady Quinn. Buffalo would be better off just sticking with Tarvaris Jackson than one of those three.

Per The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the sides "discussed various options for him to return," but could not come to an agreement. Interesting, Caplan reports Arizona has "left the door open" for Kolb to return. Kolb would be returning to a competition with Brian Hoyer and Drew Stanton - at the very least - while earning a bargain-basement salary, so we fully expect him to move on. The Jets, Bills and Browns are all possible landing spots.

Beat writer Manish Mehta expects the Jets to pursue Kevin Kolb once the Cardinals release him.
Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg coached Kolb when his stock rose in Philadelphia. Mehta says that "if the price is right," Kolb will land with the Jets and be the Week 1 starter. Although only Mark Sanchez and David Garrard sit atop the depth chart now, that's a major leap. During two seasons in Arizona, Kolb has gone 6-8 as a starter and lost a 2012 training camp battle to John Skelton.

Kolb is due a $2 million roster bonus on Saturday and carries a cap number of $13.5 million. If the Cardinals don't want to pay that, they'll have to release him by 4 p.m. ET on Friday. After signing Drew Stanton Wednesday, there's reason to think the Cards will be moving on. The Ken Whisenhunt regime that traded for Kolb is no longer in Arizona.

Kolb's $2 million roster bonus is due on Saturday. Kolb would surely prefer to hit the open market as soon as possible if he's going to be cut loose, but he won't have to wait long either way. It shouldn't make much of a difference in a shallow "QB market." The Cards' new braintrust has made scant public mention of Kolb since taking over, which probably doesn't bode well for his Arizona future.

There is "no word" if the Cardinals and Kevin Kolb have begun negotiating a pay-cut.
The sooner, the better for Kolb, who would vault to the top of a pathetic quarterback class in free agency. The fact that the sides don't appear near a resolution bodes poorly for Kolb's Arizona future. If new coach Bruce Arians was enthusiastic about he'd seen on film, it stands to reason the sides would have already hashed things out, for better or worse.

According to the Arizona Republic, "there is no indication" the Cardinals have approached Kolb about restructuring his contract yet, but if Kolb is to return, "it's going to be for less" than the $11 million he's due. Kolb's scheduled base salary is $9 million. If the sides can't strike a reworked arrangement, Kolb would make sense for the Jets in a reunion with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen says the Cards are trying to rework Kolb's contract. If the sides can't reach an agreement, "both sides move on." Kolb is owed a $2 million roster bonus on March 15, and his future will be decided before then. Kolb is a poor fit for new coach Bruce Arians' vertical-passing philosophy.

Team president Michael Bidwill admits the Cardinals want to restructure Kevin Kolb's contract.
"Kevin's contract is probably something we're going to need to address," Bidwill said. "It's a big number and given the productivity and the questions about durability and everything, that's something that I think the reality is we need to sit down and discuss." Bidwill is just stating the obvious, but the question is whether Kolb will be willing to play ball. With Michael Vick now off the market, perhaps Kolb will hold out hope he could land a starting job elsewhere if handed his walking papers. (It's extremely unlikely.) A decision on Kolb's Arizona future should come before March 17, when his $2 million roster bonus is due.

Cardinals beat writer Mike Jurecki says Kevin Kolb is open to restructuring his contract.
Initially after the season, Kolb was reluctant to do so, but he sees the writing on the wall and knows he'll be cut if he isn't open to a restructure. Kolb is due a $9 million base salary, plus a $2 million roster bonus on March 19 and a $500,000 workout bonus. Just four days ago, new head coach Bruce Arians said he had yet to begin evaluating Kolb, but he suggested Kolb may have a chance to stick in Arizona.

Former Cardinals GM Rod Graves believes Kevin Kolb has ability, but the coaching staff needs to adapt to "what he's capable of doing."
Graves said if new head coach Bruce Arians can get Kolb "to an area of comfort" the team may have its answer at the position. Comfort is not something often associated with Kolb. Both of Kolb's seasons with Arizona have been cut short due to injury, and Arians has acknowledged the need to provide Kolb with better protection. According to Graves, Arians will do a whole lot more in order for Kolb to be successful.

New coach Bruce Arians says the team hasn't even started evaluating Kevin Kolb, yet.
"I've seen enough film to know that he is good enough, but we have to protect him a lot better," said Arians. "When he is healthy, he has had some good moments. He has had some not-so-good moments. We have to protect him better, run the ball better." Arians offered some thoughts on the type of passing game he'll implement by saying, "With the receiving crew we have, we would be crazy not to put the ball upfield." That's not Kolb's strong suit. It's a given that Kolb will have to restructure his prohibitive $11 million due to him in 2013 if he wants to return.

New coach Bruce Arians says he has no "preconceived notions" about the Cardinals' current quarterbacks, and plans to "give them all a shot."
True to form, Arians also promised an aggressive vertical attack. "We have six home runs on the play sheet every week, and I'm not coming home with any bullets left in the gun." Speaking specifically about Kevin Kolb, Arians said "if he's our guy, he'll be a better player, I promise you that. ... If not, we're going to have a better option." Kolb is Arizona's only realistic in-house candidate to start next season, but he'll have to agree to a dramatic reduction in his scheduled $9 million base salary to be back.
